  1. Is there a kit for adding a starter motor and alternator? Is It advisable to change to 12v from 6v? Where do I order this kit? Thanks!
  2. I managed to find an original horn advertised as "working." of course, I wanted to test it as soon as it arrived. I used the larger runtz that I plan to use for the heater fan to drop the voltage since the horn is 6V. when I put the runtz between the battery and the horn, it made a short grumble that I doubt would be audible from inside the hood. When I connected the horn straight to the battery, it sounded off quite nicely. My hearing has returned. Here are my questions did I used too much resistance the first try so that It didn't get the 6V it needed? Will running 12V through one of these horns damage the mechanism? there doesn't seem to be any electronics to damage, just an electromagnet. the horn is labelled "THE ELECTRIC AUTO-LITE CO". 6-VOLT, MAD IN U.S.A. Thanks for your thoughts.
  3. thought I'd post this here as some of you aren't on Facebook. I plan on getting this for my TODD project at some point in the near future, they even have a delay system if you want to add that as well as a washer kit! http://www.jplstreetrods.com/index.php?route=product%2Fproduct&product_id=637
  4. I have a 1953 fargo half ton pickup with the straight 6. recently the generator has stopped making a charge. it is a 12 volt shunt generator part number 1770754 it also has a autolite number of gjc-7012-a serial number of 9-1001851. it there a way to rebuild it or should I just try and find a new one.. also where would I find one... I have some pictures of the generator if that helps..
  5. I just picked up a 1953 Dodge Pickup with a flathead six in it. Based on what I can find on the internet and in the forums, I'm pretty sure the engine is out of a '58 plymouth. The boss is stamped with LP6*7621*, and there is a casting number of 1484929-41 on the block with a date code of 6-17-58. The head number is 1326306-3, which looks like a 53 Dodge head. The starter is also a six volt 1953 dodge starter. (PN 1383847) I'm guessing that the engine block was replaced at some point but the original head and starter were kept. The truck was converted to 12v, but I don't think the '53 starter had the same pitch on the teeth as the '58 flywheel... the ring gear is trashed and there are a lot of metal filings in there. The starter appears to be shorted internally as well. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement flywheel? I'll need to replace the starter as well, but I want to make sure I get a matching set. I'm reasonably sure the engine is a 230. I'd appreciate any input. Thanks.
