  1. I'm not sure if it needs a radiator yet, if it does I'll probably go with a new style aluminum one, the main places I saw it leaking where out of the freeze plugs and out of the water pump, who knows what else will spring up once I fix those though LOL
  2. I just looked it up on RockAuto where I ordered it from, and it comes with the bolt, so all I have to do is get my stud out of the block and I should be good, thanks
  3. Great I ordered the thing today, so basically I have to pull one of the studs out if I can get it out without breaking it off, and replace it with a bolt
  4. Okay so the gates 42554 will work
  5. Howdy Folks, will the gates 42554 water pump fit the 201 in my 1939 Plymouth, I see all different talk about water pumps, and I went on eBay to try and get one and I have several different ones that say they will or will not fit my 201, I was under the impression that all the water pumps were the same, on the short blocks , only difference being external or internal, and someone told me that the gates 42554 would work for either one, not really sure, I know a bit about flatheads but not enough about what interchanges with what
  6. This one doesn't have detached control, I think the one that's supposed to be in the car has detached control, the face of this one's pretty small but it grows as it goes back under the dash, it kind of looks like a 46-48 special deluxe Motorola 802 radio, it's like a big wedge looking thing
  7. I'm starting to think that my radio is not original, I've looked all over the place and I can't find one that looks like it, everyone that I see for a 38 or 39 Plymouth has the speaker and the radio controls built into one big box, and then just a little control unit that mounts into the dash to change the stations and volume, mine is an under dash unit, it looks original to the car though so it's making me wonder
  8. I would never sell it, I try to leave all the equipment original whenever it's possible, I just love the sound of those old radios, I actually bought an AM transmitter off of eBay so I can play my MP3 player through original radios, it works kind of like the old time drive-in movies, you tune the radio into a certain station, and it picks up the music through the transmitter, it's really neat I've used it in a few of my cars already, and it only takes a 9-volt battery which lasts a good long time, and we also have an a.m. oldies station locally, and they play some pretty good stuff from the 50s and 60s
  9. Hey is anyone ever used one of those runz voltage reducers on a radio, I know everybody uses them for gauges, but this car has been converted to 12 volts, has all modern gauges in it, but it has the original under-dash 6 volt radio and I'd like to try and use the original radio if I can, I know it's 6 volt positive ground and the car is nail 12 volt negative ground
  10. It's definitely a car that I'm going to fix, I wanted a 39 pretty much my whole life just like the one my dad used to race in the early sixties, and I understand the car is 80 years old, but for the guy to just flat out lie straight to my face and tell me the car runs and drives great, and he drove it 10 miles each way every day right up to the day he listed it on eBay just pisses me off
  11. What's happening Tim, yeah that's my dad's canoe, he had to have it, got it for nothing, swore he was going to use it, and it's been hanging there for 4 years, and I'm pretty sure it was broken in half once before he got it, as it has major fiberglass repairs done to it LOL, you know I still got those hubcaps that I bought from you, they're down at my other house in Georgia
  12. I'm not sure if the radiator leaks or not, and yes I've done freeze plugs on many of these flat heads before, it seems to be the freeze plugs the water pump and maybe the head gasket, all of which I've done before many times, it is what it is, I was really pissed off because the guys lied flat out about everything on the car, but the body is Rock Solid, and the frame is Rock Solid, and I've always wanted a 39, I've dealt with cars much much worse than this one before, I just felt like venting a little bit, and it has brand new running boards that came with it
  13. The problem was I live in New Jersey, and the car was in Utah and there was no way I was going all the way out there to look at it, it is what it is and I'll deal with it
  14. I finally got the 39 today, and somehow in all the discussion we had about it the gentleman forgot to mention that it leaks antifreeze out of all the freeze plugs out of the radiator out of the water pump, and everywhere else, he forgot to mention that it had a big hole in the gas tank and then the gas pours out just as fast as you pour it in, he forgot to mention that the "brand new" wiring harness that he "installed" was not even a quarter of the way installed, and the stuff that he did why are up is completely wrong, he has wired so when you pull the headlight switch halfway out the tail lights come on, but when you pull it all the way out the tail lights turn off and only the headlights turn on, he told me that this car was a running driving car, Betty drove to work 10 miles each way every day, it has the original tires from the 30s on the front which are so dry rotted you can poke your fingers through them without even trying, the clutch Chatters so bad you can't even drive it around the block never mind 10 miles each way every day, never mind he would never even make it one mile without overheating and dying with the way the antifreeze pours out almost as fast as you pour it in, I felt a little bad for him when I bought the car because no one else bid on it, and I thought I got a really good deal at $4,000, in all honesty the car is worth about $1,500 in the condition it's in, that's like the third time I got screwed on eBay, sorry about the rant feels good to vent though
  15. I think I just answered my own question, Summit Racing sells Direct replacement lug bolts for the old plymouth's, and it says they have a 60 degree conical seat, so I believe my original ones are also 60° conical seats
  16. Hey does anyone know offhand what the angle of the lug bolts are, I have stock drums on the front of my 39, and I want to put some American Racing torque thrusts on the car, they say they take 60 degree conical lug nuts, so I was wondering if my lug bolts are anywhere around 60 degrees, or if I would have to find special bolts, I don't want to switch them out to studs I'd rather just leave them original since they work fine
  17. Well maybe not Gasser look per say, but maybe 60s Mopar with the torsion bars cranked up LOL, I don't want it crazy high anyway I just wanted up a little bit, he actually said that the 94 Ram Springs where the same height is as the original ones, but the car sat 2 inches higher because they didn't sag like the old ones
  18. I just looked up that part number 52039056 that you originally put in your car, those are 1994 Dodge 2 wheel drive 1500 pickup front Springs, I'm actually looking to raise the front end of my 39 Business Coupe a little, to give it a Gasser stance without putting an I-beam on the front, I'm going to try those Springs and see what happens
  19. Well this car is already been converted to 12 volts, it has a brand new Painless wiring harness in it, brand new GM one wire alternator, and a lot of other electrical upgrades, along with all new gauges and fuel sending unit, and also upgraded to a modern rear end with a little more Highway friendly gears and modern brakes , but still the original Flathead and three on the tree
  20. yeah that's what I'm guessing, I'm just too excited already and trying to make plans for it, it's not really going to be a rat rod that's why I don't want those round ugly headlights in there, the body is Rock Solid it just needs a little work and paint, it's going to be more of a Gasser type car, but nicely done with nice paint and body , I'm going to try and make it as close as possible to my fathers 39 that he used to race in the early sixties
  21. I wasn't thinking about putting the original lens back in, just putting a sealed beam in its place and putting the Chrome trim ring back on it, I'm sure it wouldn't be a perfect fit, but I'm sure I could find one that was pretty close to filling the trim ring
  22. I'm sure people have done it before, but I'm going to experiment with the 79 d150 headlights, and also the 81 d150 headlights which are larger than the 79 version, on paper they look like they're very close to the size that would fit, although people have probably already tried and have not been successful, or else you would have heard more about it, but the lights are pretty cheap its worth a try
  23. Hey guys I just picked up 39 Business Coupe off of eBay, haven't even gotten it yet, the guy converted it to 12 volts and stuffed modern round sealed beams in the holes without the trim rings, I know the original ones were the reflector setup, and it still has the original buckets and the original trim rings with the car, my question is can I just put a square bulb in there like the bulb out of a 1979 d150, not sure if they're similar in size as I don't have the 39 yet, but it's got to look better then the way the guy has it set up now
  24. It weighs about 15 pounds it would be falling out of second or reverse into first gear all the time LOL
