  1. What shocks did you go with? I'm also looking for advice on wheels and tires.
  2. I'm wondering about this topic as well. Have any forum members done the work of fitting modern tires and wheels to an old Dodge pickup? I'm not talking about massive tires, just something a little wider, safer and cool looking. I plan on replacing my stock rims with a nice set of smoothies and modern radials. A nice set of 15, 16 or 17s is fine by me...
  3. Thanks Jeff sometimes I get a little ahead of myself I do plan to drive the truck in stock form initially. I just can't help dreaming about the possibilities.
  4. I was actually looking at (dreaming about) the entry level Fatman suspension kit for my truck and their disc brake conversion as well. The suspension conversion kit isn't that expensive $500US, but when you add the disc brakes @ $750US that package gets pricey. The suspension install requires elite welding skills that I don't possess so that will add to the cost as well. I will look into the Dakota suspension option. Thanks for the feedback.
  5. Thanks for the information Barb I value all experiences and suggestions for my build. I may be able to find an A-833 down south next winter. I'm not ruling out the T5, but I now know a lot more than I did a few days ago.
  6. I don't see any follow up posts about how well it worked? I know it's 6 years later, but were you happy?
  7. Do you have supplier names or web sites for these adapter plates? The A-833 is a much stronger trans than the T5.
  8. Again the serial number search told me about the build it listed my FN-2 with a factory 228 and 4 speed. How much work was the T5 change I'm looking for one right now? I'm also considering 8 3/4" diff with Mustang II front suspension as well.
  9. When I did a serial number search the records came back as F0-108 the serial number plate includes this information as well. Thanks for your responses guys I'm really excited about this little truck. Tomorrow we pull the whole drive line from the 1 ton. Like a boy I'm excited!
  10. I've searched the forums and internet for information on this swap. For the record I have 1951 Fargo (FO-1) 1/2 ton with a seized 218 engine and a 1950 Fargo (FN-2) 1 ton with a freely turning 228 as a donor truck. The 228 has the same general dimensions and look as my 218, I'm just not sure it will drop into my 51 cleanly. They do have the same casting number on the intake and look to be sharing other parts as well. My 51 has a 3 on the tree and 50 has a 4 speed. I was hoping to use the 4 speed as well but, it looks quite large compared to the 3 speed. Any advice would really help me start down the road to restoring my 1951 to road use again.
  11. I plan to leave the patina as untouched as possible but, there are a few areas that need welding / replacing . I've been working on wood replacement in the box the last few days. This task turned into a father son project, my father is a retired carpenter and he is milling all the boards. He's having a great time. I've found a 1 ton FN2 series but, the body is different the hood is about an inch longer than mine which is disappointing because it was perfect. The doors seem to fit and I'm hoping the 228 4 speed in the 1 ton will fit my 1/2 ton.
  12. Hello all I just found this site doing research on my 1951 Fargo. What a wonderful resource you people have developed here. I can see I'll be making use of your expertise as I move ahead with my project. I'm a complete new comer to this vintage, but I've fallen in love with my truck. I plan to do a complete mechanical rebuild with the usual upgrades as money and time allow. This is how she looked the day I bought her.
