  1. Hadn't thought of locking tabs. That may work for the Harley, but I doubt it will work for the triumph.
  2. I have two motorcycle issues. One is my 74 Harley and it rattles every nut and bolt loose. I have tried lock-tite and one gas tank mount bolt keeps coming loose. Any better options? Second issue is my 1960 triumph exhaust spigot keeps coming loose, I have tried high temp sealant but it just burns up. I seem to be taking this apart more than riding it. Any very high temp sealant options? Thanks in advance,
  3. Well at least I know what the issue might be, sadly that isn't the carb on my car... I think I have a Stromberg. I guess it is time to pull the carb and rebuild it completely just to make my life easier.
  4. Well fuel pump is pumping fine.... Carb will stream fuel about 1/4-1/3 of the throttle then nothing (when engine is off) Look in the distributor and I don't see anything wrong, but I am not a distributor guru by any means, I need to check the vacuum advance with a vacuum pump. I know there are plus and minus' and people who like or dislike pertronix, but I did change the point to the Pertonix. I will admit if the distributor was on top of the engine and more visible I would have stayed points, but I have arthritis in both hands and working in the distributor where it is located trying to set points is not my idea of fun. With all that being said... I didn't see how the Pertonix would be the issue as it starts and idles very well and drove down the road for about 20 miles very nice as well, But I will take advice and do my best with it.
  5. I will check that tomorrow. Got the car into the garage about 30 minutes ago. I will tear into it and see what can be seen. Hoping for an easy fix.
  6. So I took the dodge out for lunch. Filled it with gas and drove around 20 miles or so. Then as I was pulling in to a friends auto body shop to ask a question the dodge spit and sputtered and would no longer accelerate. I pulled off the oil bath and if I partially choke the carb with my hand it will run perfect and it idles very well but as soon as I give it gas it sputters and dies. It seems like it is either not getting fuel or the carb is dirty. Thoughts. Sitting here on the side of the road waiting on the tow truck right now. Enjoying Hagerty plus.
  7. Nice car.
  8. At 60 it was running very smooth. I did get up to 65-70 to pass one car that passed me and slowed down to 56-58 in front of me. The way it ran I am sure it would have gone much faster. I just didn't want to push it as I didn't know much of the cars history.
  9. Thanks. Waiting for it to get a wee bit warmer here in Ohio so I can do some cleaning and minor tune up stuff.
  10. Wow that is some impressive backhoe skills...
  11. Welcome to the family. Just got my 46 and I enjoy every moment with it. Can't wait till spring or when Ohio is salt free on the roads.
  12. Welcome to the forum. I am fairly new as well. Just got me a 46 4D with a heater
  13. In my 46 the wire from the starter to the chock was gone so as of right now mine doesn't work. I have tested it with a direct wire and I hear it actuate just haven't had a chance to rewire it. Mine started the other day in sub zero temps with a little effort but it did start and run. But in 40+ degree temps it starts on the first try and I have 12 volt size wires on my battery. Yes that is also on the project list.
  14. Thanks Don, I was thinking I should have posted that I think my cables are the wrong size... I haven't had a chance to start that yet. Can't complain though as most everything else works Sadly with 6+ inches of snow and climbing and a level 2 snow emergency here in Butler County Ohio... it isn't like today will be the day I start sourcing new wires unless it is via the web.
  15. Not sure if this helps, but here is the pics of my battery tray in my 46
  16. I checked and it has like a sound mat down but no rubber mat. Are you looking for the insulation/sound may or a rubber mat?
  17. I will look after a bit and see if I have a trunk mat. Everything else in my car seems original so it wouldn't surprise me.
  18. Is it just me or are the springs on the wiper arms very weak? I ordered new blades and sadly the ones that came in don't fit but I also noticed the springs seem very weak. Is this normal or can I just source some stronger springs? Thoughts?
  19. Thanks for the part numbers I will look them up.
  20. I am hoping to contact the previous real owner and see if they still have the trim. The guy I bought it from has had it less than a year and was planning to rat rod it. I am so glad I found in.
  21. I did find a small peice of trim in the trunk in a can of parts that will fit where the cowl mirror is. I also have the four pieces of fender trim to be remounted. But sadly not the trim under the doors.
  22. Welcome to the forum. As a newbie myself, I can say everyone has been helpful.
  23. Thanks, I will do that tomorrow... done for the night. Headaches suck.
  24. Thanks.... that looks like what it is, now to figure out why the wire was disconnected before I just hook it up to test...
  25. Waiting for my repair manual and owners manual to come in. So what is this? As you can see the wire is no longer connected.
