  1. Haha- I appreciate it, I'd love to! Not a single person around here has any clue what I'm talking about with this thing, even the old timers. I guess I'll just have to keep pecking away on it.
  2. Crud, I thought it was only the M-5 that did that.
  3. So will it still try to roll off with the three speed and fluid drive setup when the car is off and in gear?
  4. Ok, I'll see about pulling and testing it. Now I'm just not sure if I even want to keep the semi-auto. I went to get some gas, set the brake, was out pumping and felt her start rolling on her own. After so many hours of work on that parking brake it still won't reliably hold this huge of a car. And I just don't like trusting my thousands of dollars and hours of investments to a little band of cork to keep from rolling off and totaling myself and possibly someone else. Now I kinda want to just install a three-speed and get rid of this tiresome, piece of junk, tip-toe shift. I think the peace of mind of just being able to park, stick it in gear and walk off would be worth it. And being able to just drive it after a year of dead-ends and doing the same thing over and over and over would be great.......The fluid-drive coupling doesn't make the standard transmission lose its hold after the engine is off, does it?
  5. And another thing, my carburetor has two of the connectors for wires and in my manual it only shows wiring going to one. I have the other one grounded and I am getting the 1-2 gear shift, so I guess that is working. But is something else supposed to go to the other one? I am very confused. This is not my carburetor, just an identical model I found a picture of. I have the wire from the relay going to the right side and the left side grounded. Anybody have one they can look at and tell me if it supposed to be different? Thanks!
  6. Well, I read through it several times and it seems like if mine is shifting as it is into second that is all working fine. So maybe I have some other problem? And I didn;t understand quite a bit of it, about "the separating fluke" and a few other things......
  7. I can hear the click when it shifts in low gear and it sounds like it should shift again at about that speed. I'm not sure if this is an engine or transmission problem at this point. My idle is very low, just a little above dying.
  8. I installed a new distributor rotor thinking it might help the initial hesitation on acceleration since the old one was a little loose. I haven't really tested it with all the rain we've been getting.
  9. I was planning on driving Lady Grey in tomorrow, but its pouring down rain and I have some leaks We'll see!
  10. Well, the only thing I can gather from this is that maybe the connections have to be soldered. I am just using crimps and star washers, but if I'm getting a shift in low gear it seems like it should be working.
  11. We had the family over for a dinner party in this perfect weather, hung some lights, smoked a bunch of meat and got to see the newest addition to our family for the first time. Lady Grey enjoyed herself.
  12. Haha, the rear end thing might be possible...... No it's the stock one, 3.54 I believe. I've tried it on jack stands and still didn;t get a shift. What switch are you saying you pull out to see this? And I have the fluids full.
  13. Thanks Earl- love those old Tech videos. I have seen this one and quite a bit is applicable for my year. And I am idling at a little under 450 I would say, much lower than I can get more modern vehicles to idle. It seems like since it is running and starting so nicely and seems to be shifting right???? that I shouldn't have this irksome top speed of 45. I can't think of what else could be troubling me, though.
  14. Thats the way I thought it should work. I generally take off in third but I haven't ever felt a shift into fourth like I can form 1st to second. It doesn't matter whether I'm going straight up a hill or down it, 45 is pretty much my top speed. I have the carb adjusted pretty fully open, so I don't think its starving for gas. And when I let off the has at 45 or so it jerks and slows down very quickly, so I really don't think I'm ever getting into high gear.
  15. Definitely- the standard battery I had would start the car, but it turned over inbelievably slow. This one spins it like a twelve volt. And yes, thats the one! I know a lot of people don't like them for various reasons, but every six volt car I ever own is getting one.
  16. Cool, I'll be sure to check that! And the best investment I ever made was the Optima six volt. Now Lady starts faster than most of my twelve volt cars especially after obsessively cleaning all electrical connections and grounds.
  17. And got some nice pictures in front of the old Logan Cave Community building. In the time that I stopped I ended up with half a dozen honey bees buzzing around in the car with me, thanks to the bumper crop of clover.
  18. Had a very pleasant cruise down some of the local lanes. Installed the NOS interrupter switch and have rewired everything twice, all according to the manual, and have finally got it to shift in low range, but will still not shift in high. You can see and hear the shift in the video at about :46 seconds, but then it still doesn't hit fourth gear. From what I've read it should shift straight to fourth when you shift after it kicks down in low range, if that makes sense! Aaaaaanyway, enjoyed the drive and hope you guys do too. And if anyone has any advice, I'd really love to hear it!
  19. Wow, I really appreciate the offer, but I just went ahead and got the one on ebay. I figured I should before someone else got it and I had to pay twice that for another. And of course they don't take returns Oh well, thanks anyway!
  20. I think so- thats what I have been working on for a very long time, to no avail. So I'm thinking that since all my wiring is properly in place finally, perhaps the switch being bad is my problem? I've still been driving her the ten miles to work quite a bit, just at about forty miles an hour. Everything seems to be working great, finally have a speedometer, starts like a dream and idles great at about 450, if I can just get fourth gear
  21. So, in all my thrashings on Lady Grey's transmission recently, I have found that the throttle interrupter switch is broken. The plastic base is cracked and popped out, so I going to try to replace the whole thing and hope like crazy that it solves my shifting problems after all this time! I found an NOS one on E-bay for $150, but wanted to check with you guys to see if anyone had them cheaper- Bernbaums said they didn't have any, nor did any other place I checked. Thanks! http://www.ebay.com/itm/291249387887?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2648&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  22. My bad, my bad. I'll blame it on my little phone and not my general ignorance She was lovely nonetheless.
  23. Haha- I was saying something at work about eating cow tongue tacos and the teenage waitress' were of course gagging and carrying on... then I asked them if they ate hot dogs and if they knew that there was tongue and everything else you could think of chopped up in there. Nobody laughed after that
