  1. If you pull the doors with the hinges, is it necessary to pull the hinge pins? My doors fit perfect but they need to come apart for "derustification" and paint. If I just unbolt the hinge there is really no reason to worry about the lower pin, correct? Upper needs to come out to work on mirrors.
  2. Well that explains the tail gate. I knew the 3/4 tons where longer, just not wider. The search will continue I guess. Thanks for the Mar-k link. Maybe I will contact them about purchasing 2 bolts.
  3. It finally cooled off a bit here in Texas so we got back on the 49. Had some buddies over to weld some of the cracks in the bed and fender. We got everything welded and pounded a few things out as well. The big success was saving 8 out of 10 of the crazy bolts that hold the fenders on. I guess I need to find two to replace the ones I had to cut off. The big disappointment of the day was when my daughter looked at the new/old tailgate I got and said "Are you sure that is right? It looks short." And she was right, it is a tall tail gate but it is probably 6 inches short width wise. It is off a 48. Anybody know what tail gate I have? Her truck is a 49 3/4 ton. All in all a great day. Feel like we got something done. Now to take the bed a part.
  4. Thanks, It looks like they have one that will fit where the glove box goes. It is heat/ac/defrost and you can put the vents where you want. I had not heard of them. Thank you.
  5. Thanks guys. I'm still pulling the truck a part but am trying to look down the road. The heat is finally starting to break here in Texas so I can go back at it. Little warm in my warehouse.
  6. So, has anyone put any of the under dash a/c systems in a pilot house? If so where did you mount it? We have a lot of activity in the center of the cab. Shifter, e-brake, and vent lever. I was thinking maybe under the passenger side, not sure if the heater might be in the way. Or even had a thought of under the seat facing forward. Just looking for some input.
  7. Yep, mine too. Suggesting the end of an era I suppose.
  8. Thanks, I bought it in college and drug it home. My dad and I restored it and I've had it since '91.
  9. Anybody know the NAPA part number for the replacement motor? I have the heater all clean and painted but my motor is dead. Just need a motor and the heater can go back together.
  10. Great, I am probably going to need one as well. I have 3 good ones and the 4th has the valve stem hole rusted out pretty good. We think we can fix it. However, if we go to disk brakes on the front and a Jeep rear that will put us back to 1/2 ton wheels all around. That is correct isn't it?
  11. Thanks guys. The couple that prompted my question came off with a little more muscle. The truck looks like a street rod now. Inner and outer fenders are off as is the hood. Just the front panel left on the front end.
  12. Thank guys. Not doing a points show car. It is my daughters truck and we are just looking for a fun ride. I am just interested in fasteners. Thanks for the tips on the DPC bolts. I'll watch for those. I am basically just looking to hold the truck together. I figure a 16 year old girl driving the truck will be enough of a show.
  13. These: http://mopar.pairserver.com/p15d24ph_forum/topic/23863-fender-bolts/ I was simply asking if someone may have already done the leg work on the bolt count before I took the time. That was all. Thanks.
  14. I have gotten a little time the last two Sundays to start taking the truck apart. Some things come right off and some not so much. My question is with the exception of the $90 bolts that hold the rear fenders on, are there any others that I should stress over getting off? Kaitlyn will be 40 by the time I get this thing apart at this rate. I have some that would be much easier to just cut then fight with. And since this whole thing seems to be built with everyday nuts and bolts that will probably get replaced anyway I though I might just cut the trouble makers. Lastly, has anybody put a nut and bolt guide together? So one could just order up a box of these and a box of that from someone like McMaster Car. Thanks Andy
  15. Thanks guys. I will give it another go. On a side note trip number 3 to the dmv was successful. We now have a title in our name and the truck is titled on the engine which is original. Also, I found out that my best friend growing up's dad went to school and still is buddies with the son of the guy who owned a dealership that last used this truck as a tow vehicle in the late 60's till 76. Did you follow that? You can still make out the Well/Shaw Motors on the truck. Small world and pretty cool. I am hoping that they may have a picture or two of it in service.
  16. I have the chrome spinning. It unscrews then stops. When it is in between the chrome spins freely but the knob will not pull off. I just don't want to break anything.
  17. These tools are great. But, how does the knob come off? Thanks
  18. I like the green. Looks great.
  19. I will be posting here as well. The Facebook thing just makes it easy for family and friends. Checked my phone and all the geotagging stuff is off automatically.
  20. Dangit, what's that going to cost me? Plus the sticker of course.
  21. Wow thanks. I have printed it and added it to our "Book O Knowledge"
  22. Ok so now to find an old speedo. Just need the bucket. Definitely need a clock. That looks great.
  23. For those of you on facebook... I built a page for my daughter and I to use as a build log that our friends and family could follow along with our saga. I also thought it might be a great motivator knowing we had eyes watching us, waiting for something exciting to happen. https://www.facebook.com/Kaitlyns49Dodge
  24. Gee, I think your right. That's why I was asking for input. Thanks for the answers guys. I think I will investigate the 12v to 6v converter for the gauges and see what to do about the heater. I appreciate everyones time.
