  1. Cutting steel for the frame Starting to weld things up Model a front end and 8" ford rear with triangulated 4 link
  2. First off I know this isn't technically a P15 - D24 but it is a mopar at heart, if the Admins want to move it to the off topic area that is ok. Ever since I rebuilt the motor in my '41 D19 I caught the flathead mopar bug and wanted to do something different with it. I originally wanted to build a flathead powered Model A but trying to find a useable body that was in my price range turned out to be pretty hard since I'm a broke a** 19 year old. I ended up finding a fiberglass '23 Tbucket body for cheap and a few other craigslist scores like a motor, tranny, rearend and some other parts. This is where it all started, a '49 Dodge truck motor and trans. Getting the motor back from the machine shop Porting the block The first few pieces
  3. I'm running a 904 behind my 230, haven't got it running yet but I can't wait to see how it does,
  4. Painted the motor. Primer, silver base, ruby red, red flake then a dusting of more ruby red with a couple coats of clear. Looks really good in the light.
  5. Yep, just put the gaskets on there and traced an outline. They can really be opened up a lot as long as you're careful not to go too far towards the deck because of the water jacket. I'll also clean up the inside by where the valve guides go. A friend of mine is cutting me out an intake / exhaust manifold flange out of 3/8" steel on his plasma table so I can make a integrated intake and header.
  6. For the last few months I've been trying to get parts together and save up some money for this car. Friday I got the block, crank and rods back from the machine shop. Bored .060 and decked .015 with new cam bearings and freeze plugs installed. I also sent my cam to Oregon Cam Grinding for a 288 / .410 grind. Started porting the block tonight.

  8. Sorry for the delayed reply, I have been really busy the last few days. I got the crank, rods and flywheel from a local mopar guy that has a bunch of misc parts. The 218 in my D19 has a 6 bolt crank and fluid drive transmission, the crank in the 218 I'm building was a 4 bolt and it was out of a 1/2 ton, 4 speed truck and I was told the 230 crank I got was out of a 3/4 ton truck and it's 8 bolt. I really have no idea why they're are so many variations of cranks, but I'd like to know the real answer!
  9. Also, here is the 230 crank, rods and flywheel I will be using.
  10. Thanks! Here's the last motor I built for my D19.
  11. The last motor I built, I shaved the head .070 and decked the block .020 and it was just over 8:1 compression. I want to try an edgy head because it's a bolt on 9:1 compression and the aluminum should cool better than a stock cast head. I want to try the SBC valves because they are a bit bigger and everyone I've talked to says they're the easiest valves to make work in a flathead.
  12. I've wanted a flathead 6 powered Model A coupe or truck for a while now so when I had the chance to buy a 218 for an awesome price I jumped on it! Even better was that is was only a few minutes away from my house. So far the plan includes an Edgy aluminum head, big cam, 3x1 intake with Carter BB's, header, stainless valves from a small block Chevy, and a 230 crank and rods.
  13. I know a lot of people do the slant six distributor conversion using the stock slant six distributor but I was wondering if anyone has done it using an old dual point. I have a Mallory double life dual point for a slant six I'd like to try to run on my flathead. Thanks!
  14. Here's the 218 in my D19. Bored .030, decked .010, shaved the head .070, ported the block, cross drilled and balanced the crank. Also got an Edgy 268 duration, .395 lift cam.
  15. I want to paint it the original regimental blue. I already painted the firewall when I had the motor out and the body is pretty straight so hopefully this winter when it's in the garage it'll get some color.
  16. The D19 is now my daily driver, put a lot of miles on it in the last few weeks and went to the Rose City Roundup car show today in downtown Portland. It cruises down the highway at 65mph no problems yet! I found some fender skirts for it and polished the sun visor on it. My friend took this cool picture.
  17. Once I figure out how to post a video I will, I was just going through my computer and I found some old pictures of it before I traded it to a friend for a year and got it back.
  18. I used the Speedway Motors 12 circuit universal harness, it seemed to work pretty well except for the generator / regulator because the harness is mean't for an alternator so I had to add a few wires to make it work.
  19. Interesting, I can't wait to see the results.
  20. Did a little more fine tuning to the D19 and ended up taking it to my car clubs cruise in today, (I'm in the black shirt by the right fender). At the end of the day I put about 35 miles on it today and it runs like a champ. I also picked up that cool visor from a guy I work with.
  21. It came with a fluid drive and it still has it in it.
  22. They are fishtail tips, I was going to use them on a chopper project but they ended up sitting on a shelf for the last year so I figured why not?
  23. All the problems I've had with this car have been totally worth it. I took the D19 out for it's maiden voyage today and I can honestly say it's the happiest I've felt in a long time! It still needs a lot of work before it'll be totally driveable but it seems to run pretty good.
  24. It's the original motor, it's not turning backwards because it goes forward in first, second and third gear but it also goes forward it reverse.
  25. I got the motor running in my D19 pretty good so I thought I'd back it out if the shop but when I put it in reverse in went forward. The fluid drive coupling has ISO32 in it and the tranny is full of gear oil but all 4 shift positions go forward. The adjustment seems good on all the linkages and nothing is bound up. Does anyone have any ideas on this? This is the last piece of the puzzle before I can drive my car. Thanks, Bryan
