  1. The rear wheels did not move when we winched it up onto the trailer. Just dragged it! The engine ran fine and all wheels moved when the car was towed two or three years ago. I'll jack up the rear wheels and see if the brakes are locked. I could not move the emergency brake either way. Could it be stuck? I assume when the handle is moved toward the floorboard it is in release mode.
  2. I went to move my '47 Desoto yesterday and put it onto a trailer, and the back wheels were frozen. Since I had removed the clutch pedal I could not get it into neutral. I'm not sure if it was the gears or the rear brakes were applied because I had removed the master cylinder. I've been told to remove the driveshaft and the wheels should roll. Unless it's the brakes, in which case I have to remedy that situation. Can I release the clutch somehow and get the gearshift lever into neutral? And ideas? We did winch the car up onto the trailer and moved it to my house, but I'd like it to be able to roll.
  3. Thanks for the details. I'll follow it to a tee. Take care.
  4. $2709 per month premium? I could never make that payment. I'd be interested in seeing what others are paying per month.
  5. I was told that using a clear coat for a black paint job shows up a lot of swirl marks that are difficult to remove. Advice?
  6. Gotcha! Thanks.
  7. On my '47 Desoto, I took the front wheels and brake parts apart a couple of years ago and do have everything labeled. I need to move the car and am putting on the front wheels just for the move. I'm looking at all the parts and my reference books, and it appears that the brake plate that holds all the brake parts goes on first, followed by the drum and then the rims. Well, I have one very large bolt and another slightly shorter one for each wheel. The are the bolts with the arrows. I assume these hold the brake platform plate to the spindle. Then the drum goes on over that. But I cannot find any bolts for the drums. So do the lug nuts hold the whole thing together?

  9. I'm 58 and self-employed with no health insurance plan as of yet. I'm curious your experiences - good and bad - with your health insurance providers and advice. I really don't know quite where to begin. It'll be just my wife and I. Thanks.
  10. I'm moving my '47 Desoto to a new location and the front end has been on jack stands for a couple of years. For the tow, they said I need to put the front wheels back on. I am assuming I can put the drums and rims on without putting on the brake plate that holds all the brake parts??? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

  12. Are the NOS door handle trim tools with the pin that sticks into the handle really necessary to remove the handles or is there another way?
  13. In the attached photo I have two rear fender bolt/washer combinations I removed from my 1947 Desoto sedan. The majority of the washers are the larger type as on the left hand side. The other washer was found on specific locations to hold the fender on but I can't recall where. Or maybe they were later replacements? Anybody know? I'd assume they used the same bolt/washer on other Mopars of the era. By the way, these bolts were very rusty but cleaned with the Speed Blaster. I don't mean to keep plugging that tool but it's pretty damn nice to have. Also, anybody have any of these bolts/washers used they want to sell? Thanks.
  14. Thanks very much for posting. That's a tool that I will need and I was wondering where I was going to find one. I appreciate it!
  15. I have Andy's catalog and there is no identification of NOS parts on a pice by piece basis. Anybody know how much of his mechanical parts are NOS? I know the rubber isn't.
  16. Yeah, maybe they are at that!
  17. Saw these on ebay. Will they work? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1946-1947-1948-1949-PLYMOUTH-P15-WINDOW-CHANNELS-MOPAR-/220829601422?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item336a784e8e
  18. Apparently Amazon doesn't pay shipping on this but order from Zendex directly and they do ship free. Blaster is $59.00. When you ad shipping to ther discount Blasters you come up about the same. I am in no way connected with Zendex!
  19. I think they could reshoot it at their expense?? Their cat in their garage?
  20. Mine is made by Zendex - they have a website - but Google Speed Blaster and you will see various places to buy. I think Amazon has it at a good price and with no shipping if over $25 which it is. I think I paid $50-%60 for it. Zendex makes it in more than one color and the color makes no difference.
  21. Who offers the best replacement kingpins? Or does it matter?
  22. I remember Jay when he was a long haired comedian on Letterman's first show. He was a motorhead back then, and he probably did get grease on his hands back then and loved it.
  23. I bought one of those Speed Blaster sandblasting guns awhile back and it works great! Have been blasting the interior window garnish trim and all that rust comes off like a charm to reveal new metal like it was at the factory. Also great for bolts and washers, etc. The only down side to the Blaster is the small hopper that has to be filled when empty. It may be overkill, but I came up with the contraption in the attached photos. Works like a charm! Takes about two seconds to refill the hopper and you're blasting again. The problem, as I saw it, was to elevate the five gallon pail high enough to fill the Blaster hopper easily. But that pail gets heavy with media in it, so there had to be a way to fill the pail at ground level and then raise it for use while blasting. I think it is self-explanatory how it works.
  24. Anybody do business with Custom Auto Glass? I'm looking for a source of good glass that fits. Thanks.
