  1. Another option for using an ipod in a car with a built in (small) amplifier is a Sony unit that Crutchfield carries. It is meant for adding ipod functionality to a modern car but is supposed to work standalone as well. Uses a remote for volume. Search for Sony XDP-MU110 on Crutchfield, they're currently $50.
  2. I have a tanks, inc. fuel tank and I'm pretty sure I got it through yogi's. I used the stock straps and it went in without issue. I did have a hard time finding an orientation of the fuel sending unit where the float didn't hit either the side of the tank or the baffle but was able to make it work.
  3. Thanks all for the advice. We were able to get the bushings changed out on Saturday. I've attached a picture of the old ones, the inner metal tube and the rubber of the silent block pretty much fell out. The damage on the outer metal housing was from the air chisel driving it out. Getting the new one started in the hole was a little bit of a challenge but after we got it going straight it pulled in fairly easy using a couple c-clamps. The rear bushings were easy. We managed to do it without removing the leaf springs completely from the car.
  4. Make sure to grease the wheel bearings. The 8-3/4 has an inner seal so rear axle grease does not lube the wheel bearings on these (they're packed with grease like the front wheel bearings are). I did mine with a needle attachment on a grease gun based on information from various forums.
  5. But NAPA can't always get the parts, even the ones they have on their website. They show the leaf spring bushings, the website lets me reserve them, but they called and said they couldn't get them.
  6. Looking at the hood sides I think this was a 1934 Plymouth PE sedan. Would've had an independent front suspension so it probably just ripped this side off. My dad has a 34 Plymouth PE 2 door sedan street rod so I'm a little partial to them.
  7. Thanks all, My plan was to support the car with jackstands on the frame and take one leaf spring off at a time by supporting that end of the rear with a jack (my original post wasn't clear). Is there a better alternative to the rubber silent block (poly?). Where is a good source to get the silent block? Thanks.
  8. Slowly going through my 48 Plymouth fixing items as I find them and looking at the rear leafs it looks like the rubber front and rear is pretty much gone. From what I've found from searches the bushings at the rear are pretty easy to swap out but I haven't found a clear description of what it takes to do the silent block at the front of the leaf spring. How hard is it to install the silent block? Obviously the car will need to be on jack stands and the rear end supported, my concern is does the silent block need to be pressed in or can it be installed with a vise? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
  9. I think you'll need some original parts to make either work. They assume that you're removing an existing motor and they make one kit to replace an electric and one to replace a vacuum motor. If you don't have either, the first step might be to find out what parts you're missing and how much of the existing stuff you'll need (and I'm no help there as I'm still running vacuum wipers).
