  1. Larry, sorry to keep you in suspense! I'm still on the fence. It's about 4 hours from me otherwise I'd be running over to look at it. I've been burned too many times by peoples opinion of what "GREAT CONDITION" is..... you know what I mean. But here's what I have found out in talking to the owner. he's only had it 3 years and only driven it the first 6 months of those three. He bought it from an older man that had given up on restoring it. In those 3 years he did all the brakes, painted the engine and new tires. He's an older gentleman and sounds like he's not able to work on it as much not either. Says he'll throw in a new battery and it should start right up and drive home...??? I also pressed him to look under the car and in the trunk for rust, says there is not a bit. No smoke, perfect interior and he'd come down only to 3k. Also asked him if it was a custom or deluxe model because I couldn't see trim on the rear fenders but noticed the windshield trim is chrome.. He looked and said that one rear fender had holes and the other did not.???? replaced at some point I imagine. I dont think a 2 dr sedan was offered in a custom. just deluxe. Also has the bumper off as he was going to have it rechromed but said it's not in bad shape. Also has the rocker trim NOS. Tried to get as much info as I could as I dont want to show up surprised.... My biggest things are I dont want to spend TOO much more on it to the point it's not worth what I've got in it. ( I know, I know it's nearly impossible with an old vehicle, see olds photo above. Just dont want to hear I told you so from the boss lady ) will keep you all posted..
  2. I love my signal-stat 800 with the light up green tip! at night it looks like im having a christmas disco whenever I turn.
  3. So I placed my first order with www.oldpickupparts.com and Jason was over the top on customer satisfaction. I wanted used (NOT NEW OR NOS) door handles for my B-1-B (new would have looked out of place with the rest of them) and he rounded me up an outside and inside and escutcheon. Not sure if they normally do this for folks but I was sure glad they did. Apparently they have a bunch of the old 48-53 trucks from salvage yards and elsewhere from all over the US that they are parting out and using for reference to build their inventory...Sounds like they are ramping up to be the leader in Pilothouse Parts! And that's alright with me. I dont think any one of these parts websites is the "walmart" of parts and has they lowest prices on EVERYTHING, but Jason matched a couple of the other items items I found and I couldn't be happier! Give em a try.
  4. Found some great vin info http://www.classiccardatabase.com/VINengcodes.php
  5. I like to find them in "tinker" condition. Like this one. Am wondering how to find out just how many they made of these. Vs coupes. Club coupes etc.. Any sources would be greatly appreciated.
  6. Found a nice little gem in a local paper that looks like all it needs is some minor body work and paint. Interior is all done and engine compartment, all in working driving order. I'm not sure how rare (if at all) a 2 door sedan is. I believe it's the deluxe model but it's hard to tell. I doesn't show any trim on the rear fenders but the windshield has chrome.??? I think he's got the bumper Guy wants $3,300 obo Holler at me if you think I should jump on it....
  7. What model and year tick? And I'm still looking for a passenger side support shield if anyone has got one of those to spare...???
  8. I've used this one now for 3 years and I have about 7 batteries that I tend in the winter, 6v and 12 v works great! http://www.amazon.com/Schumacher-SC-600A-SpeedCharge-Frequency-Battery/dp/B000H94F6E/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1369625595&sr=8-3&keywords=battery+charger+6v
  9. Brag moment! I just got completely lucky and bought one NOS for $20 of ebay... mitchell sells em for 130$$$ yikes! Yes the 40 had the nice underseat tray , plus a frame that held the battery in place and then a top cover that bolted down to the body and tried to keep all the gasses from the cab. Problem with these were the bottom bracket of the tray would corrode and then there was not much to hold your battery from falling out and getting run over... Then there was a small lid with thumbscrews to use for filling/charging.. 41 used the 957777 tray on the drivers fender well, just bolted to the fender and then you';d use a clamp down set up.
  10. Ok, so anyone got a pair of the rear hangars that they'd sell? I just assumed since they were on Bernbaums and Roberts site that they were commonly available but now I'm learning that it'll be until the end of august (maybe) until they are available..... I really dont want to be out of commission that long... Anyone know of a place I could find a decent pair besides epay?
  11. 48 doger, I believe it's a b-1-b but it is a bit of a frankenstein so it nothing would surprise me. Took some photos, the mid cross member is solid on the bottom unlike the rear. photos included. You can see the hole in the frame inside the hole of the crossmember.
  12. Man I'd buy one if I had the bar that goes across the bottom! All's I gots is a couple bent threaded rods...... Must have been something big to rip it all off there...
  13. Call me crazy or maybe my truck does not have the same set up but there is not really a way to get to the back side of the front of the rear. the frame crossmember is sealed on all sides, although there is two small holes on the front and back and if you poke your finger in and make a 90º turn there is a hole on the back side of the bracket... ?? So if I ground off the rivets I could get to the other side of the bracket but other than that a punch just wont work.. Just wanted to throw that out there, maybe mines different? I'll keep trying and then weld a good bolt to the pin and use a puller or something.. keep'n on truckin...
  14. More Expert Help Needed on my front of rear bushings... 48 Doger & Desotosav I'm looking in your direction! So I've taken the bolts out and then used the same threaded bolts to remove the pin but it is IN THERE! I've soaked them for days now in PB Blaster and it's just stripping the threads off bolts when I try to tap them out.... I'm sure I've probably ruined the pins which is fine since I can pick up new ones and judging from the rears they are most likely original. But I'm kind of at a stand still. My next step is to try some heat on the spring/bushing and if that fails? Or maybe just weld a bold in place so I can really "tap" hard!??? Anyone please holler at me if you see something I'm not trying! There is NOT a nut behind it is there? I see no way to get to it other than the two small holes in the frame crossmember..??? ...cant be... in better news!~ I got my gas tank back from the shop and it's going to look good all painted up and I also picked up enough white oak to start on the bed! Mar-k strips showing up tomorrow! Ready to get "frank" back together and on the road! This place is a wealth of knowledge! Thanks everyone!
  15. HOLY COW! that is the mother lode! - So riddle me this... the rubber seal that goes on the shackle before the bushing....... is this NOS correct? I've never seen a NOS set of shackle and bushings come with them? Should I be concerned about not having them on? or should I just build my own out of some fuel/heater hose? I see on some of the modern day options they have them (http://oldpickupparts.com/search.php?srch=shackle) I contacted Jason at the above site and they carry new replacements for the rear bracket too! YEEE HAW!
  16. Great thread yall's, I've learned alot! but I also have more questions! 1. My rear upper brackets (the ones riveted to the frame in above desotodav photo) are totally worn thin on the top. Are these ridiculous to find or is it possible to find a pair with good threads? (in other words I NEED a pair) 2. I have some shackles from a 55-57 and 55 dodge trucks that LOOK exactly the same, and seem to measure correctly. I would think I could just use them as long as I used them in a pair...??? correct? or should I find/buy a pair online from the rare parts etc...??? I'll also assume that the fronts are BAD too, hopefully the way they are set up they wont be ovaled out and I can just get some replacements.. Thanks for any advice you can give...
  17. HanksB3B, I'd like to know how your JC Whitney Ford sending unit went in and is performing in your pilothouse?!! $30 sounds better to me than $100
  18. Who stole my truck and put it in a museum? Sad to see cars in a museum sometimes..... Dont people know they LIKE to be driven!?
  19. Friend of mine just fired up a website dedicated to DODGE owners and fans. Check it out! Kinda cool - still new but cool... http://www.oldodge.com
  20. Now I know why... They wont life a finger or use any common sense to help a guy out. I'm hoping anyone might have gone through this and could possibly have some advice so I waste as little time as possible! I've just purchased a D14 and the vin number on the title is the engine number. (Ive heard that this happens sometimes for various reasons) We'll I though it might be nice to just fix the problem and have it corrected to be the tag on the door, which by all accounts seems to be the correct vin when I look it up. And I have no reason to believe it's not original. The lady on the other line of the phone said there is nothing I could do. nothing.... I tried to reason and asked what if the motor is bad and I have to replace it and now my car has no vin as far at the state is concerned? So she said I'd have to have the state issue me a new vin number as a rebuildable or salvaged or something... Then I said but I'd like to use the original number that actually means something....??? It would be a shame to just slap a state appointed vin tag on an original car... LAME That's as far as I got. I politely said "Thanks for all you help" whilst biting my tounge. Is there a way to purchase a line ticket from chrysler or something so that I can show them it's all original and it's OK for them to just change my vin that is not on their records anyway? hope someone can shed some light on this.... I AND THE CAR ARE LOCATED IN UTAH
  21. ok my bad.... I though it was weird that it had some juice and was intermittent...... I was standing there in a daze staring at the battery and noticed that the terminals were all hazed over..............................I grabbed the wire brush and shined them up and put it back in and WOW! buddy it churns over like no other battery I've seen! Woot! a $100 battery for $20.... got to love that when it happens! 1 for 1 we'll see what happens on the next one...
