Kit worked fine with stock wheelss...The disc brakes worked last saturday when i wrecked it....left about 30 feet of skid marks, but just couldn't get me stopped quick enuf...I put the shock relocation kit on also, but only drove car up the street and back with old original shock location. Good luck Bob

I have it insured thru Grundy for agreed value of 10 gs, but the other guy was insured thru geico so I hape I am ok. He got ticket for failure to yield. Thanks again for everybodys help

I had seat belt on. The plydo discs locked em up. about 30 foot skid marks. Rearview, appreciate the heads up on ebay 52, but I think I need to make sure I am going to fix before I buy any parts. Does anybody know what year front clip parts will fit. I'm thinking 49 to 52 may work, but not sure about coronet or diplimat parts. I'm not opposed to ending up with different grill etc. Guess I'm lucky didn't have the bumper, gravel shield, etc on yet. Appreciate ur help and concern thanks Bob

Just got my 52 warfarer (sdn) on the road 2 weeks ago. Every thing new on front end plus fatman dropped spindles and plydo disc kit. New rear springs with 4" lowering blocks. Converted to 12 volt, langdon hei dist, new froor boards, new stainless gas tank, new brake and gas lines.I started sanding car and had left fender and door and hood in primer. Making nice headway. I go to breakfast every saturday am to Boneshakers biker bar and meet a few other old car guys.. On way there this am a 2007 3500 chevy pulled out in front of me and i knocked the u know what out of it. Not sure yet whether frame is bent, but need whole new front clip. Rad pushed into fan and bent fan. Plus i got a knot on my head and sore back, neck, and elbow. What a bummer. I'll get some pictures and try to post. In meantime, isn't there a parts interchange book to cover this car? If any one knows, I would appreciate the info.....Also if u know of any available parts I may need them. I bought this car out of Jefferson,N.C in june of 2006. It has 50357 miles on it as it sits in my driveway now. Really a sad day for me. Bob

Bob So sorry to hear of your loss. I'll be married 41 years in Feb 2009. Hard to imagine how you feel. Good luck. Bob

Eric If u just dril thru the dust cap with a 3/8 bit it's really easy. After i removed the "stakes" i drilled the cap and knocked the king pins out very easily. I had never done much front end work either, but it wasn't that bad...worst part was getting everything clean. Bob

I just completely rebuilt front end on my 52 wayfarer...put is fatman dropped spindles, disc brakes, new tie rod ends, upper and lower, inner outer A arm bushings etc. It sounds like u are trying to replace king pins...I had to drill the upper dust seal with a 3/8 bit and then took a 5/16 drift and drove the pins out. Oh yea, before that you need to drive the "stakes" out. They are tapered, so u need to look real close and see which end is smaller and drive them out from that end. If i remnember right, I held the proper size punch with a pair of vise grips and knocked the out. Took a couple of good whacks, but they finally came out and then drove king pin out with 5/16 punch from top......Good luck Bob

I just got back from AZ. and have not worked on car for awhile. Went out yesterday and found the right wheel was not turning hardly at all...pulled the caliper bracket off and ran the adjustable stop in so would match the same as left side. This picked up 1/2 turn. I have dropped spindles from fatman and disc brake kit from Plydo. Also rebuilt A arms and put new front springs in. I am not going to be able to use fatmans upper shock mount as it is about 3 inches too tall and i cannot cut it properly to fit...It is a tight fit..I just cut a 2x2 piece of wood to the length of mid point on shock and drilled holes to simulate shock and then made a polywood template that should work. I'll get a friend in machine shop to cut new bracket from a 3/8 piece of steel and see if i can get shocks on... Anyway, thanks to all for your responses. Bob

Just put disc brakes and dropped spindles on a 52 wayfarer. Does anyone know how many turns, lock to lock, the steering wheel should turn? Mine is 2 complete turns, but does not seem to be right. Have not driven yet as the front clip is still off, but just doesn't seem to be enuf. thanks Bob

Thanx for the photos...looks like 1st picture ran line over top of steering knuckle...I will go look at mine again...the caliper is located on rear of rotor near firewall...the flexible line is on bottom of caliper....bleeder on top. How are u coming on ur rebuild...mines all back together but have not put front fenders back on yet...I'm out of town for about 10 days starting next week, so it may be a while b4 i get back on road..I'm not much on computers, but I may be able to get my daughter to get some pictures on here for me...If so I'll forward them to u......Thanx for ur reply and help Bob

Thanks for the link to both articles..I have printed both but don't see how brake line is routed. Also neither mentioned the turning. I just need to get down on ground and see how it steers. I hate to bleed brakes and then have to reroute the soft brake line. Anyway, I'll wait another day or so and see if anyone replies...Thanks for ur help Bob

Just rebuilt front end on 52 wayfarer. Installed fatman dropped spindles and plydo disc brake conversion. Does anyone know how many turns i should get lock to lock on steering wheel. I am getting 2 full turns, but doesn't feel like enuf. Also doesn' look right, but that may be because i have the front clip off. I routed flexible brake line between steering knuckle upright and steering knuckle, right beside the bottom of king pin. This doesn't look good, but don't see any other practicle way to route. Car is on stands so cant see what is going to happen when it is on ground and i get suspension travel. Anyone have any answers or suggestions.... Thanks Bob
-
Ryan If u have car high enuf, u should be able to push lower control down far enuf to get spring out. It should rotate down and back torwards center of frame and pull spring out of bottom. Bob

Ryan I just replaced everything on front suspension on my 52 wayfarer. If u are just replacing springs, put car on stands and jack under the bottom bump stop. Remove the bottom outer pivot bolt and then ease jack down slowly and spring should roll out harmlessly. At least thats what mine did. Install new spring and reverse the sequence. Did u get new spring silencers? I've never done this before, but seemed to be pretty straight forward...worst part was getting rid of all the crud and painting....I put in fatman dropped spindles and am waiting for disc brake kit from plydo...should be here tue or wed....the steering arms are at machine shop getting ground, counter bored, etc. Good luck Bob

Just went to garage and drilled 3/8 hole in top of dust plug on king pin. Stuck a 5/16 punch thru hole and knocked king pin out bottom. The bottom plug came right, and looks like can be reused if need be...I don,t see how u can get the plug out by prying. They are almost 1/8 thick and are pretty tight...Looks like u have to sacrifice one to get pin out...you made me nervous about bernbaum....hope he does better than he apparently did with you...thanx again for help Bob

I am planning on using the Plydo disc brake kit. Just giving the wallet a rest after the suspension and spindle drain...I have had the car converted to 12 volt + ground...got new floor panels in front and am working on a few rust areas on front fenders...car is in pretty good shape..Came out of N.C. mountains. had 50250 miles on it, but they must use salt in mtns. cause had a lot of surface rust on frame and fender wells etc. really appreciate ur help...everything so far has been struggle, what with 50+ years of rust and grease...should be a little better on rebuild thought...hope so anyway...well back to garage Thanx Bob

I,m fairly new to this forum, so please bear with me. I have a 52 dodge wayfarer sedan. It's in garage with front clip off. Ihave fatman dropped spindles, and am waiting on complete control arm kit, coil springs, king pins, and tie rod ends from andy bernbaum...I have brake and backing plate off the pass. side....how do u get the dust covers off the top and bottom of king pin...which way does the king pin locking pin drive out? Looks like from rear to front of car,but not sure....also, am Ibetter off trying to remove king pins while on car or after unit is off...any advice u can offer is appreciated...I haven't done much front end work, so talk to me like I'm ignorant, cause I am... Thanks Bob

I have a 52 dodge with the oval valve stem holes....I have bfg silvertown 670x15 tubeless.....I found a site called Patchboy who sells an oval valve stem. I think the part # is 17501OV...u can measure the hole, length and width and call them to verify the part #...anyway, they have been on the stock rims for about 6 months now and have not lost any air...I'm running dog dish caps so I can't speak to the wheel cover part, but th stem should fit thru the cap hole... Good luck

Tim, I do have a V welded on backside, but no shock mount tabs..I understand pre 51 had lower shock mount on lower control arm. These uprights are marked in paint "51-56 mopar", but i think they sent me wrong part...I guess i will call them monday and see if they can help. Thanks for ur reply...I'm new to the forum and it looks like u guys can be a lot of help. Did u put disc brake kit on urs...I don't want to order the brake kit til i get the upright situation figured out. Thanks Bob

I have a 52 wayfarer sedan. I have a set of fatman dropped spindles. Looking at the new spindle upright, it does not have a lower shock mount tab...The old upright has a lower shock mount and the shock mounts at the top on the control arm...Do i have the wrong upright, or is there a kit to relocate the lower shock mount? I know there is a kit to relocate upper mount to frame, but i'm lost on lower....,Can anybody help? Thanks Bob

I have a 52 230 dodge...mine was doing same, so I went to NAPA and got kit for my carter B and B. Rebuilt carb and it did same thing...got a vacumn gage and found a plug on intake. I couldn't finda a vacumn port to use when i took the plug out, so i bought a brake bleeder and used it...7/16 thread...l loosened the dist and twisted until i got max vacum and tightened back up and the hesitation and popping were gone...runs great now...the most vac i could pull was approx. 18 lbs... Good luck Bob
