  11. enough with the non sense lets get back to talking about cars! im goingto search the forum to look for answers.
  12. u never watch barret jackson do you, they sell 1981 smokey aand the bandit trans ams for 60k, a car that they made so many of in the 100,000'a, only 28 years ago, not even to mention the fact that every highschool friend of mine had that trans am, and it was a poorly built xar the seems didnt even match up on it. here we have a car that is almost 65 years old, not to many floating around, they are worth more than you think. most of these cars are in the grave yard, rotting away far and few between are driving around. a perfect condition p15 coupe- not four door - in 1 scale mint condition will do 30 in a good economy, at the right auction. PLAIN AND SIMPLE A DECENT PAINT JOB IS 10,OOO ALONE AND ALL THE REST OF THE CAR IS MONEY.
  13. lets get one thing straight! To all the people on the forum who are kind of giving me a hard time, i dont have to answer to anyone. And yes i understand if i ask a question i should write a responce to wheather my issue has been solved. As it would be the proper thing to do! I bought a 1947 plymouth about 1.5 months ago. And know nothing, i am actually a very handy person. I could do my own work on the car, but considering if i mess up and something is not right i could get killed. Ill pay a auto mechanic 100 an hour to work on it. Tools are inportant and i dont have all the tools, to fix whats wrong. Now most guys say work on it your self. I am from the new generation. Most guys who oen these types of cars are in the 50's to 70's. And they had experience with these because these were there daily drivers 40 years ago. This is not my case. Trying to find a auto mecahnic to work on this car is nearly imposibble, becasue like most things they would rather do a brake job a 1998 honda and make 400 for 1 hours worth of basic work, then tinker with a 63 year old car, and not get nay results, for an hour and make 85. Took my car to one mechanic he worked on wiring said that the wiring was melted creating a short, showed me when he pushed the gas the guage was showing plus 35, then he says to me your battery is no good from the short from the melted wires. Bought new battery, still the amp guage shows no charging. But generator still not charging. So that mechanic sucked pulled my car out of there. Gave him 250 for nothing got no where, cant argue with him. Bought a fuel sending unit from robert motor parts, for 85 mechanic put it in, guage only reads half tank doesnt go to full mechanic says to me, i installed your guage, dont know what to tell you. And i didnt know what to say. End of story tried a new guy, who seems to be the right guy, since all he does is work on old cars. Went there this morning. Havent worked on ebrake yet since, the car dies everytime i drive the thing. Ned to get over the electrical problem, before stopping becomes my concern. He said hell fix my car 100 percent. Alot of you guys say i should get my hands dirty, when you need surgery do you do it yourself, so youll learn for the next time? Its such a dumb thing to say, i agree i should learn basics which i already know. But saying these cars are basic is not correct! These cars work on differnt principals then today, if you grew up with this technology then you understant how it works, but like me i grew up in the 1980s, where my first car a nissan 280z had fuel injection, and was a modern vehicle just like todays cars. If i can pay someone who knows what there doing, $100 hour versus me who can do the physical labor but doenst know the order of operations, what the sense. Pleain and simple, i bought this car to enjoy and get the old feeling, and have somewhat of a show car, and you guys should try to answer my questions, instead you say use the search button. Searching finds answers i agree but times cahnge when you read all the thngs the editor writes, which he wrote ten years ago some of that stuff doesnt make sense anymore. The classic car scene is on fire and these cars in 100 percent shape are worth 25 to 30 k all day long. Not 10k like said. But that is here nor there. I have seen pefect cars like a p15 sell for 33k, here in ny, becuase in ny the average salary is higher nad people spend like water here. The cost of living in ny is ridiculous. To go to a baseball game for 2 poeple will easily cost you 200, for a met or yankee game. If you are a single person and you live in ny long island or manhattan you need to make about 75k to just get by. My questions are good and there are alot of nice people who try to answer them. Thank you folks, i see that most of the people on the boards are older because you guys are already answering questions at 630 in the am, and at night when im on the boards like10pm there is little movement, with questions. Which is cool, i understand the peoeple who like these cars are the people who grew up with them, thats why you guys know all the answers. For ex: Someone said in on of my posts that the molding on the rear fender was not standard on p15 only on dodges, thee only way they would no is because they lived it, and were around at that time. At this point in time i am going to sink alot of money in my car cause i like the way it looks, plain and simple, an i will pay that right someone to do it. I am a business man, not a mechanic, you dont call the plumber to fix your electric, you call the electrician. There is nothing wrong with eeking help, in something your not knowledgeable in, that is what makes the world spin. The fact that these part guys sell parts that cost new 3 dollars for 100 each part is a ripoff but waht can we do vcant get in anywhere else. Just a part of life, if yo need a fuel guage and andy birnbaum, say i have nos one for 85, chances are hell get it becuae there is 100 guys who need them, and 2 floating around nos. Whats the point to ask questions even if they were asked already, im sure every uestion was asked, at some point, but it keeps the forum going, how many posts can your read about someone retiring or not p15 related at all. Look if i would have not asked all these questions, you guys would be on ebay looking for parts for your rides, i am not trying to affend anyone i thank you guys for the help because my knowledege is far superior then the first day i joined the boards, but dont make a religion out of my posts, if you can help great if not move on to the other posts that interest you.
