  1. Support that. No cob bashing. In whatever country or continent they might serve their important and not always easy duty to the society.
  2. Ha. Ha. Ha. Rather different over here. Sometimes it feels like the police is driving better cars (merc, bwm) than the normal people do :-) So coming back to the actual topic - is there self-canceling solution besides the bentley alternative that I came accross?
  3. As we do need a turn signal switch here in Germany (as well as a hazard light) I did a very brief search session and stumbled across the usual ones: http://www.google.de/imgres?imgurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.reidsrodparts.com%2Fimages%2FA5007.JPG&imgrefurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.reidsrodparts.com%2FELEC1.html&h=815&w=2126&tbnid=ddl9dLMYBj-8iM%3A&zoom=1&docid=bIbqKKDPLuAJgM&ei=x7OBVLutD8usPJmPgNAH&tbm=isch&iact=rc&uact=3&dur=1819&page=1&start=0&ndsp=27&ved=0CC8QrQMwBQ Then in the end I found this offering: http://www.turnswitch.com/Turnsignal.htm. Amazing features, but unbelievably and amazingly expensive. Does anyone happen to know of an "in-between" solution: So in-between being totally dumb as the standard and the above "ipad" solution (in price terms)? Especially the self-canceling aspect (and the looks) would be interesting add-on benefits. Thanks
  4. Dan great :-) Ulu - you are showing a 1948 example. I did it almost the same way just not with such an easy access to the dashboard :-)
  5. Just out of interest: I would be interested in understanding the difference between the Radio 603 vs. Radio 803. A manual would be fantastic :-) Does anybody know what the speaker size of either radio is? Do you have any experience with new speakers that fit that radio without too much change requirements. Please assume a 12 Volt system in the end. Thanks
  6. Masking tape - why did I not think about this? :-)
  7. Thanks. Well I shall be needing then calm hands and a clear vision. I shall embark on this in the new year. Thom
  8. Rich, what a nice desoto you have :-) http://www.desoto.org/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=1196
  9. Thanks. No you didn't and thanks again. But now I am clearer on the actual "product". Thanks to you all. thom
  10. Hi, What make and type of paint spray are you using for both the engine part and especially the red for the actual trim elements? And talking about trim: has anybody got a cool trick on getting the hubcap Plymouth description neatly painted in red? Thanks
  11. Hi, I found an interesting car that has caught my attention. Flying over from Germany for one car doesn't feel to be a viable option though. But before I might embark on a costly decision I would love to get someones opinion in regard to the real state of the car. Should anyone live close, I would very much appreciate his help. Obviously I would be more than happy to pay for this kind service. I can be contacted using this address: thombarath@gmail.com. thanks
  12. Should a car of interest come up on your market I quick flight over to the US from Germany will not work in most of the cases. Do you happen to know of a inspection service that I could trust in that can be my "virtual evaluation eye" from a distance. Would be great to get some advice from you in regard to that. thanks
  13. Having seen the space in a P15 thanks to Bob. How would that look in a P19? Does anyone have one and can issue a photo? Thanks
  14. Well yes a hammer - what a subtle tool to use :-)
  15. Well, with all your wonderful insights and good information I began to realise: My next car shall be a Mopar again. There is just something very good looking, almost homey about these cars. That might sound awfully weired. But this is how it feels to me. Now, budget allowing one day I might be rather interested in the convertible option. Always has been a dream of mine. I know, not really practical etc. etc. But then I don't need a practical car. I want fun. (I must have to add: I have never seen a convertible Plymouth/ Dodge in person :-() Talking about fun here are my questions - sorry for the shear amount :-) Are both models - as a matter of fact Dodge convertibles seem to be even more rare - equal in regard to the inside seating space? Is there actually enough space in the back seats for someone to sit - at least for a while? I have noticed, the Dodge 48 model has two rear seat windows. The Plymouth does not. Now, with a kid sitting in the back it feels to me that that window would be a good thing to have. Does it actually make a difference in keeping the wind slightly controlled? I am tall, with 6.3 not too tall though. There is plenty of space in my current Plymouth, although the windscreen could certainly be a big higher :-) Now with the convertible being closed, would there be enough head room space for me? Is the windscreen even lower than in the business coupe? How would it feel driving opened up - would my head be covered by the windscreen? If I was to move up towards a 49/ 50 model would those cars be somehow bigger, more spacious etc.? I certainly do not expect for one person to answer all these questions at once. But maybe over time I can get a clearer picture. Thanks upfront. Thom
  16. A few nice thoughts added by all. I certainly shall have more keys to be made in my next life. I mean, after the new impressions are ready :-) And then hopefully the car shall be sold, so that another one can move into my life :-) And finally, the worst about this all: I had to realise how really easy it is to break into a car like that, take out the key switch and run away. I have no (I mean really none) criminal inclincations or capacities. But still I managed to get this all done within under 5 minutes. And I must have looked rather weired with this stick in my hand. Strangely enough, this didn't bother any of the bypassers. And there were quite a few of them. Makes me feel almost unsafe leaving the car somewhere outside. Thanks again for your thoughts and help.
  17. Hi, I might not aim to go the picking the lock route :-) As shel_ny suggested I shall take the wiring off and aks a lock smith the make me an impression. By the way, the matter is not getting and finding the cylinder including switch (that offer I was very kindly given) but both my doors use the same key as the ignition. So this safes me from both getting new door locks and taking them out in the first place. Thom
  18. Okay - rather easy answer to exactly the question I had. Pardon my english, your description of the matter was certainly more correct and precise. Thank you very much. thom
  19. Hi, I am getting closer to replacing my lost keys :-) The car is now open - was in the end easier than expected. It is really awful to see how quickly one can actually "break" into a car! The ignition cylinder with all the leads attached and the switch insight was taken off (not a challenge of course). Now, there is one tiny littly matter: Is there a way I can detach the switch from the cylinder without taking all the leads off? Probably a rather stupid question for most, but then . . . Thom
