  1. i'd love to, but can't afford leaving the country for my rusty friend out there has eaten all my money:rolleyes: you sold the rod you had a picture of in your resto thread? i'll keep my eyes open, would be fun to see it live. can't wait to see more of the coupe!
  2. :)well, i did yesterday. just something abou some radio corp that fabricated it. i heard those things can catch fire, that's why i'm so interested in it. all the car's electricity runs through this little ammeter...
  3. ok, thanks! that means i should buy a new one for the gauge, right? do you know what kind or size i need?
  4. i am working hard for the last weeks to put the 40 back together. there's a hot rod 1/8 mile race for traditional rods and customs up to 1955 nearby that i want to visit in the beginning of september, but i don't know if i'm going to make it. still lacking brake parts, flashers and other stuff to get street legal. here are a few pictures, with the new WWs on. i really didn't know if i liked them at first... getting better.
  5. my car has a condensor on top of the alternator, and another one behind the gauges, going from the ammeter (alternator connector) to ground (some attachment screw to the dashboard). do you also have these? i don't find them in any of my wiring charts. could it have something to do with the radio, to compensate generator oscillation for example? they'll be shot after all these years, anyway. if i really need them i'll have to get new ones, but there aren't any numbers on them.
  6. original look on my 40, will not change a thing:) ...except cleaning and replacing some switches.
  7. darn. i'd like REALLY to have that, but i guess it's been lost... that's really a crazy idea! hmm. maybe i can build one myself from a toy cat.
  8. that would be an interesting after market gadget then, right? never heard of it. i have some unexplanable switches under the dash... not connected, though. i wonder if it works? i am installing a complete selfmade signal unit including hazard tomorrow anyway, maybe i can find out some more. there was this other thingy in the glove box: goes by the same name like the heater on the right side, under the dash. i wonder how that is wired... you see, there are a lot of mysteries in my car for me:D
  9. this thingy is bolted to the left side of my trunk and the wires don't seem to go anywhere... it says WINKLITE on top of it. what is it? thanks, guys!
  10. anthony, you have a message! i'd like to avoid sending the complete units to the US, freight would be too expensive i guess... and there is a hot rod race here at the first weekend of semptember to which i swore i would drive on my own wheels.
  11. not much at all. but last time i checked with them they didn't have any...
  12. it's a 1940 P10, and yes, i am in europe... the diameters are 1 3/8" and 1 1/4". sleaves are looking good, no scratches and damages. the cyls have been overhauled recently, all rubber parts are intact. my guess would be they were assembled dry and then the car stood in the barn for a few years. i tried to get new cylinders and pistons, but all i got so far was a rebuild kit, but that contains only rubber parts. here in germany you normally get new pistons and springs with a set, but people told me before with the pre-war brakes it wouldn't be easy anyway...
  13. wanted to overhaul my front brakes at the weekend, right side did alright but i had to shoot the pistons out with pressair (do you call it like that in english:confused:) driver side, however, didn't move one tiny bit. there was some rubberlike stuff in the piston as well. managed to get the pistons out with a grease gun, and what do you know? the piston was broken into 3 parts and glued together with 2compound glue! can you believe that? i'm glad i took it all apart, after still not getting my rear drums off that was my second surprise on that brakesystem. a friend of mine will try to manufacture new pistons for me now with the cnc... has anyone an idea were to get new ones or good used ones if that doesn't work?
  14. great car, rodney! makes my day... cause i'm sitting in my lousy office all day and MY car won't move:D
  15. and thanks for all your help, guys! it was a great help!
  16. ok, it's back in there and everything went well! now i have to put in the flasher and hazard wiring and the signal stat model 900 i bought, and afterwards i can put everything back into the dashboard! you nearly can't see that it was apart, only the knob in the middle has a slightly different color. they preserved the patina completely, but the mechanical parts are all like new!
  17. yeee-haaw! the speedo came back from the shop today, they really did a great job! they machined a few parts by hand that couldn't be had around here, replaced worn parts, cleaned everything and put it back together without destroying the patina! can't wait to get to the garage tomorrow! oh boy, oh boy, oh boy:D
  18. hmm, i guess i better keep the old lady wrapped up in nice, oily rags in a clean place and go for another motor, have that one hopped up (some folks keep telling me about stroker kits around here:rolleyes:) and put it in. might be a nice sleeper car. i also bet it will be the best to save some $ and have everything done in a decent shop over at your side of the pond, because here the shops are way too expensive! but if i really change the engine, i'd like the biggest i can get to have a noticeable difference.
  19. nice one:D i truly and deeply envy your summer vacations, norm! great story.
  20. nice one, rolliejoe! how big do these 23"blocks get over the years, anyway? i'd like to replace my 201cui one day, maybe next year, but i want to keep the car as original as possible, so no cutting and welding... are the 230s and 251s the same blocks like my little old 84horses?
  21. will visit my garage this weekend, too. dust on the toolbox. you name it!
  22. ok, thanks for the link! just wanted to know if it's possible or not. i'll just rip it out thereafter i put my dash together again, open it and lubricate it. i want to avoid putting more electric stuff into the car, because i think it would maybe be to much for the old generator, and i want to stay 6V. veedub 6V parts may be available, but first i don't think there's more parts here than in the US, and second i am quite sure they're much more expensive here. everything is... trabbi is a great idea, though! russian stuff is as well. a friend of mine has a heavily modified, chopped and lowered GAZ from 1950, and most of the stuff inside is dodge or very similar! it has a flat-6 tank engine and a 3 on the tree, just like mine.
  23. possible or not? i never got the motor to work, what can i do to check if its really broken or maybe one of those vacuum tubes is too old or i don't know... any tips what i might try first? i had a guy on ebay selling one, emailed him if he could send it over to germany, guy said "sure", next day i tried to get it but what do you know? i wasn't allowed to bid on it from over here! it went for 20$, can you believe it?
