  1. just found this thread... how cool is this!!!??? i want one! it says PIXAR all over! seriously, this is about the coolest van i've ever seen. keep it, you're lucky to own it. that design is out of this world. and please don't chop it! oh boy, i have to send these pics to a friend. please keep us updated on your work on the car! best, fred
  2. hmm... now that you mention it... i guess they put a wrong photo into the cuba article. it doesn't really look like cuba, does it. tststs:rolleyes:
  3. Hi everyone, just wanted to drop by and share some pics i found in an article about Cuba in 1954... at least 2 of them show old MOPAR metal in the background. nice colors. i'm not sure about the last one being a mopar, but hey. other than that i hardly have the time to visit at the moment, working my way through giant piles of.. well, work, piles of work. the P10 is stored nice and dry with a few more pounds of pressure on the tires and a blanket on the roof. right next to it, still in the box, are the new skirts waiting to get their patina treatment and for the spring to come. i hope everyone's fine! best from berlin, fred
  4. those were the days... i miss my old garage
  5. Hey Olaf, there you are, good you found your way to the place of help and wisdom. Haven't been to the board a while... work piles up and won't let me think of other stuff. But i see you're in good hands here... don't trust this OZ guy AndyD, though harrharr! (german laugh) To all you others: this is the red S-11 that took shelter besides my rusty boat last winter, some might remember the pics. If your rear motor mounts would be the problem, i really think you should have problems shifting gears properly. i already went down that road, mine were literally gone, but i never encountered any oil-coming-out-of-my-rear-vent-tube-issues.... i'm also using lowering blocks (the ones on your car came in the same box with mine, i ordered them for the PO...), still no oil problems. I don't think it's related to engine position, or else the cars would spill lubricant whenver you climb steep hills, wouldn't they? I hope i make it around to your place soon, but unfortuantely i lost your number again... If weather is nice on sunday i might go for a ride in the Plymouth, let's see. Fred
  6. i like it:cool: but it's right, hard to find a grill that looks better than the original... no reason to stop trying, though.
  7. right, this is classical bolt security. you see it on vintage airplanes and race car tech, like from the 20s. this is 70s russian military, however... but, come on, don't tell me cold war stuff from the US looks THAT much better;) i've seen things that tell other stories. but hey, the russians always did their very own crazy thingies. to me, it makes them very interesting. (as long as i don't have to own one myself...) i used to own a M72 flathead motorcycle, 750ccm boxer type engine. it's at my father's shed now and he doesn't want to give it back to me... this one i'd like to get back, ok, but the rest... i don't know. the construction might be 30s, but this engine is a 70s crate block for tank purposes. you should see the tranny, it's enormous! anyway, has anyone ever seen this type of construction on the pistons? and i'd really like to see a photo of D5 engine ports, are they the same or was it changed here for some reason?
  8. haha, you're right... i'm going to interrogate him about that.
  9. there are two deep scratches in the wall, but no material welded on there from the seizure. he says he's going to try honing first and see how it looks like afterwards. the pistons is not cracked. i told him to pull #3 as well, just to be sure.
  10. ok, this took a while but now the culprit was brought to daylight. here is piston #4: yikes. that explains why the noise was louder when the engine was still cold... note the crazy groove in the piston, it continues under the lower ring over to the other side and allows the piston to flex. i have never seen anything like that before. looks like the russians made quite some changes to the mopar layout, the intake/outlet ports, pistons, who knows what else. wrist pin and connecting rod bearing seem unharmed.
  11. you're right, there's something about the front. there are some very nice ideas, but they're fighting each other as if the owner could't decide if he wanted a dragster or a leadsled custom. the paint job is just horrible, and there's other stuff, too... i'd like to own it and smooth it out, it could become a very nice custom. AND he's driving it, and that's cool enough for me.
  12. thanks, don. i just took the liberty and quote-posted this in our german hot rod forum. dang...
  13. So you're the owner?
  14. i guess it's connected to the original pump and move with the engine?
  15. i know they seem a little close to the headers right now maybe, but bloodyknuckles here runs the metering block in a very similar position without problems and it' s only a mock up now after all... you can always wrap the tubes with heat tape... let's wait how it turns out when it's finished. fred, you gotta convice him to come on here to post his progress
  16. Looks great! what kind of engine is it, 218, 230...?
  17. Thanks a lot, Tommy! I keep my fingers crossed real hard so that your yellow beauty can come home to you. It would just be wrong if someone else would get it. I hope you are doing well over there! The coil was in the trunk for the trip in case the old one would fail. Fred
  18. welcome to the board, nice car you have there! it will be lots of work, but you will get to know great people and learn a lot of amazing stuff until you're finished! this is one of the most satisfying hobbies one can choose, you'll see. and keep us updated on the progress, the photos look promising best from berlin, fred
  19. i have the same problem with my throttle spring. my right foot alsways falls asleep after 30 minutes i never dared using the hand throttle like that. good idea, though...
  20. I crossed Mecklenburg, going through Schleswig-Holstein into Hamburg, then on to Bremen and into Niedersachsen. All those are very flat and in the North of Germany. If you go to Hessen, for example, i have been told it looks more like North Carolina.
  21. yes, we do.
  22. yep, that's corn. last crop standing... everything else was already mowed and hauled home. we had the first frost from friday to saturday, below 0°C when i started, and i had ice build up on the carbs' bases.
  23. Actually i don't know for sure. it drops even lower when stuff gets real hot... but normally it stays there when i reach 160-180°F. Maybe i should inspect the valve, the spring was broken when i first opened it last year and i put some washers in to raise pressure since i couldn't get a new one. i'll take a look and then rummage through some of my boxes... who knows, maybe i find something i can put in there. I'm running SAE30 and though it leaks it doesn't burn any. What do you think, anything else i should check?
  24. Hey Chet, that looks awfully familiar... all that blue sky behind the nice split windshield... Great to see you had a prime weekend over there, too! I really have to fabricate some dash knobs this winter, when i take a look into your cockpit there's lots of little cool stuff mine doesn't have anymore... Thanks for sharing! Best, Fred
