  1. I’ve got the clutch/brake pedals off of the pivot shaft (thanks to those who chimes in on the thread I made regarding removing them) on my 1940 dodge 1/2 ton. I’m getting ready to run the pedals through my blast cabinet and paint them (after I replace the bushing in the brake pedal; it’s got a bit of slop in it). Looking at photos of restored trucks, the brake and clutch pedals are black, however when cleaning mine up there appears to be silver paint on them, and no black where there is paint remaining. Were the pedals engine silver? My truck is a Canadian dodge, so I’m not sure that would matter. Just want to be correct when I do blast and repaint them.
  2. I’ve got my 1940 flathead engine apart on the engine stand, and it still has about 30% of the original paint on it, which we all know is a silvery grey colour when new. Have you guys found a good rattle can engine paint that is close to the correct colour for these old flathead engines?
  3. ?had 3 parts guys look at it and no one caught that number on the fin (nor did I!)
  4. ETN1
  5. So I’ve found a donor engine for my 1940 1/2 ton, and it’s a 25” flathead 6 out of a 1942 1 ton which is a solid runner, but I’m still going to go through it entirely. The carb that is on the donor engine looks to be original, and is a Carter ball and ball manufactured for Chrysler and the only number on the carb is 6-293. Im going to rebuild the carb of course and went to several box store parts stores today and none of them can find anything near this number for a Carter in their parts books. My questions are, is this likely the original carb on the 42 engine, does this number make any sense to you guys and gals out there, and finally any suggestions on where I might get a rebuild kit for it?
  6. Yup, looks like the same set up as mine. Thanks for the tips and the photo.
  7. I’m following the FSM directions on removing the flathead out of my 40 1/2 ton. In some cases the manual is vague, and it says to remove the clutch and brake pedals off of the clutch shaft as part of the engine removal preparation. Everything on my truck, as expected has been fighting me and I’ve loosened the outer adjustment collar on the end of the shaft. Should that collar slide off the end of the shaft, followed by the clutch pedal and then the brake pedal? The clutch pedal is obviously keyed to the shaft somehow, and I don’t want to do any damage trying to get the pedals off by doing something I shouldn’t. I’ve been soaking the pedals where they meet the shaft, and the outer adjustment collar with PB blaster, and I’m guessing I’ll need to apply some heat as well. If anyone can tell me the best way to remove the pedals I would appreciate it ?
  8. Thanks gents; I guess that will be tomorrow’s project!
  9. I’ve got a brand new gas tank and sending unit for my 40 1/2 ton; the old one is junk. There is no reference to removing the gas tank in the FSM. is it possible to remove the gas tank without lifting the cab off of the frame? With the 4 bolts removed (the rear 2 have springs on them) the tank still hangs up on the 90 degree filler neck inside the cab. Im thinking I’m missing something and I should be able to replace the tank without lifting the cab from the frame.
  10. Ok; so the rear window trim was the same colour as the interior.?
  11. I’ve sourced an original interior rear window trim that holds in the rear window on my 40 1/2 ton. my window and trim was missing when I purchased the truck. im curious what colour the trim would have been from the factory? my truck is royal blue, and my interior is brown so I’m guessing it would have been one of those 2 colours. of course it could have been black for all trucks as well. Can someone out there enlighten me on the trim colour?
  12. This switch was hanging below my steering column, and the 2 leads from the lamp style cord went to 2 leads on the back of the ignition switch. im assuming this was aftermarket, but I thought I would double check before getting rid of it. Anyone got a guess as to what this would have been for, being a push button switch tied in to the back of the ignition switch?( the other lead was disconnected when I bought the truck, so I have no idea where it went to).
  13. Thanks for the tip
  14. So the windshield is starting to slowly loosen up a bit at a time. There is no paint left on my windshield frame; I’m curious, was there frame painted body colour, or black?
  15. Thought I’d fire out a thread on a job I have been putting off on my newly acquired 1940 half ton. im going to need to remove the windshield and as most are , I have a bit of rot in the lower passenger side corner so I will need to do a bit of metal fab there before I replace the glass. The crank out mechanism is seized that has the windshield strap going through it; I’ve been hitting the mech with PB blaster but so far it’s still stuck. Looking for hints or tips on how to go about getting the windshield out of the truck.
  16. The socket is still there; x didn’t look that close when I packed it in for the night, but that makes perfect sense. Thanks?
  17. I pulled out the gauges from my truck today so that I can refresh and test them, as well as assessing my wiring harness as I plan on making a new one from scratch. found that the factory wiring goes to this chrome “button” above the Center of the speedo in the top of the dash; it has a single wire going to it. Can anyone enlighten me as to what this thing is?
  18. Thanks for the link. How did you go about removing the lock?
  19. I need to remove the cylinder door lock on my 1940 half ton, and have been trying to figure out a way to remove the partially stripped and rusted in set screw that you need to remove through the hole in the door edge to be able to remove the lock cylinder out of the outside of the door. I’ve been hitting the screw with PB blaster and hit it with some heat before trying to remove it today, but have had zero luck . (Also, interestingly the is no cylinder lock on the drivers side of my truck). can anyone make any other suggestions on how to get this set screw out, or am I stuck with having to try and drill it out through that same hole in the door edge.
  20. Will the 1940 3 speed bolt up to the later flathead?
  21. My new brown door windlace arrived with my new interior kit for my 1940 1/2 ton. The original windlace is long gone, and there are no instructions. Can anyone give me some windlace installation tips, and maybe some photos of installed windlace? cheers!
