  1. Thank Norm. I'm back on this project tomorrow. Will post how it comes out. Jack
  2. I used the felt portion of velcro. Clean the surface good. Jack
  3. Of course Greg, Warrenton Virginia would be long distance from Mayberry . Jack
  4. Ground question?? In addition to the 2 wires running from the sending unit, should there be a seperate wire for the ground from the sending unit to the frame? If yes, what gage wire would be recommended? Jack
  5. Gary, when I bought the car, clip already done. It was probably mid 70's clip, as it does have disc brakes. I had a 81 Mirada clip I was going to use on a 48 Dodge I had just bought. Found the DeSoto that was much further along, so I bought the DeSoto and finished it, then sold the Dodge. Jackie
  6. Ed, All I need to do to check it out, is to reverse the wires on the gague? I'm giving it a try today. Jackie
  7. I have 48 DeSoto 4 door. It has a Chevy Nova front clip, and a 70 Plymouth rear. I put a 392 Hemi in mine, so the 440 should be a snap. THIS IS HOW IT SITS WITH NOVA CLIP. Since this picture put air bags on rear to lower it a little. 392 HEMI .. HAD TO REMOVE COMPLE FRONT SHEET METAL TO INSTALL Jackie
  8. Sharp Plymouth. I really love that rear bumper. Jackie
  9. Did run new wires. As well as I remember, the gauge has 3 post, labeled Ignition, 1 & 2. Checked with a rod shop, they said on the 'old' cars, did not make any difference order wires were hooked up on the gauge to the 1 & 2 post, so long as the Ignition was correct? Didn't sound right to me, but I accepted his word. I have a lot of cash & labor in this project, and I am at the same place as when I started:( . Jackie
  10. Gauge and sender are both two wire. Gauge, two wire + ignition. Jackie
  11. I am back, but not much better off. I bought new tank sending unit from Burnbombs (other was toast). hooked it up, gauge would only read 1/4 when tank was full. Tried 3 different gauges, all the same. HOWEVER ,while on a road trip yesterday, full tank, gauge reading 1/4, I realized the further I drove the higher the gauge reading was. It's reading backward. Showed 3/4 tank by the time I reached my destination. I filled the tank back up, gauge fell back to 1/4:confused: . Jack
  12. Very helpful, but, what about WD40? Would be easier using the little red attachment nozzle that comes with the WD40. Jackie
  13. Well, I took out the new, put back the old, it's back working same as before. I did check, and clean the old one, and it turns freely. The new cable did not fit into the tranny gear far enough. QUESTION, how to oil the speedo? Jackie
  14. Well, I installed the 'new' cable yesterday. Nothing:mad: . Now the speedo/odo, does not work at all. I was/am not comfortable with the way it fit into the speedo gear in the tranny. Just feels like when I insert into the gear, the inner cable slides back into the housing:confused: . Of course I can't really tell that it is, just fells to me like it does. Back to the garage:( as soon as I finish this cup of coffee. Jackie
  15. greg, perhaps you are right. I am only going from memory (big mistake), and I thought I remembered the 426 Hemi being available in the very late 64's. My first mistake for 2009  . Jack
  16. Welcome to here kool47. Posting pictures must not be too difficult, 'cause I can do it:rolleyes: . Jack
  17. Plymouth got a Hemi in 1964, the "race" Hemi. then later in '64 a "street" hemi. Jack
  18. Sorry for the deaths and destruction. Glad you are OK. Jackie
  19. Anyone heard an update on rockabilly? Hope he is safe and OK. Jackie
  20. WELCOME to here. I can not offer any advice, but I am kinda in the same process. I bought a new speedo cable from Atlas Obsolete (951)461-9005), no website. I plan to install it this week. Good Luck, Jackie
  21. Welcome RapidScott. You are at the right place, at least its a Plymouth. I have a DeSoto, and I have been accepted;) . Jack
