  1. Thanks Ken, I maxed my radials out to 50psi and it made my steering much easier when stopped and turning. It didn't make the ride any rougher. It took some sway out. thanks Steve
  2. Hi Ken. Thank you. For your response and Information on the steering box I have another question. I have been looking at an electric assist power steering {Unit) to install In the engine compartment, do you think this Is feasible. I would cut the steering shaft and outer tube and add this somewhere, between the steering box and the shock mount. Then secure it to the frame. What is your input. Thank you. Steve
  3. Has anyone retrofitted a power steering box to a 1955 C3B series pickup. thanks Steve
  4. Thanks for the input fourm members. I loosened the steering adjustmentand and raised the air pressure to 40 psi. This seems a little better. And yes I have a 66 big block corvette and over the years became hard to steer. I over came the problem with a power steering setup which are readly avalable. Thank again Steve
  5. Will too much caster make turning the wheels when not moving very hard? I can barely turn the wheels, when the truck is on the road, it steers fine and tracks straight. Steering box adjusted ,The king pins are smooth and greased. I am running 5* of caster for straight traiking on the highway. PS . getting older and weaker; I am two years older then the truck!!
  6. My 1955 c3b truck is very hard to turn the wheels when parking and turning around. A few years ago I added 5* of caster in to it to stop it from wandering on the road.(worked great and a joy to drive). By me adding the added caster does this make it turn harder? I know that i am pushing 70 but will the added caster make it harder. With wheels off the ground the steering box seems smooth. Thanks, Steve
  7. I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 55 REPLACED WITH DORMAN 55818 UNIVERSAL UNIT THIS WAS THE RIGHT OHM FOR THE GAUGE. THE DORMAN UNIT DIDN'T FIT IN THE OPENING OF THE TANK SO I MODIFIED IT . I HAD TO GRIND OFF A LITTLE OF THE CIRCUMFRENCE OF THE UNIT TO FIT THE TANK AND MAKE THE FLOAT ARM THE RIGHT LENGTH. WORKED GREAT STEVE

  9. My fuel sending unit is shot. I bought one with 0- 90 ohms. The gauge read full at 0 ohms and 1/2 tank 90 ohms. Can anyone help me with the correct ohms . The truck is a 1955 C3b with an 12 volt Autolite electrical system. The reastat on the old one was destroyed. Thanks Steve
  10. Great looking truck and excellent find. I wish mine looked so good 40 years ago when I bought it. dodge.bmp
  11. How about a crack in the distributor cap or crack in rotor.
  12. Here’s a story. Shortly after I got this truck in 1978 and fixed a burnt ex valve I bought an above ground pool for my family. I being a city boy didn’t know how much a ½ ton of dirt was. I had a couple of friends come over to level the spot for the pool. I thought this was going to be easy but my one friend said we must dig out a foot from the front to the back for it to be level. After filling the truck bed up so full to cover over the back window, we drove up and down hills for 5 miles to a friend’s house to unload. After 3 loads (and the easiest steering and hot brakes this truck ever had) the pool spot was level. Now with my experience with running a maintenance department at a Country Club for 35 years it had to be at least 1 ½ tons per load. We all survived. Steve dodge.bmp
  13. Here are the pictures. Steve
  14. Yes I do. I have two 3 speed trans . I will send pictures in the next few days. One with strait shifter and one with curved shifter. Steve
  15. X files a great show I am glad they brought it back. I have been spending about 2 hours a day reading tech articles and posts. I plan on reading them all. The best one is about the high spot on the steering box. I adjusted my box years ago an found that spot when my wheels were a 1/4 turn off of center so I just backed the box off. I also found that my caster shims were in back wards. When I get my truck out of storage I am going to check that box again and maybe tear it apart.
