Today I will attempt rebuuilding my carburetor. I have the kit. Redid the interior. Looks brand new. One step at a time.

Hello Gents, Happy Saturday. I have a spark plug question. Are the spark plugs I need, resistor or non resistor? Thanks so much!

Hello Gents, Today I dropped my carburetor for the interior to be stripped and dipped. I also drained the oil. It was very dark, murky and a lot of sludge. I plan on dropping the pan and cleaning it before I try to start it. I also took the oil filter off and no filter was inside and it was filled with 3 inches of sludge on the bottom of the container. I cleaned the interior out with brake cleaner. I want to look at the valves from the side compartment so I can clean and see valves that are stuck. Can I turn over the engine with the valves exposed? Do I need oil in the engine just to perform compression? Thanks!

I think I have a gentleman who has extra carb parts laying around. So thankful!

Fun is about to start - new wiring arrived

Does the clear coat give a glossy look? I like a flatter look, but still want to preserve my art work on my truck. -
So I found a gentleman out of Missouri that has the piece I'm looking for. He is making me buy a kit for $66 and the brass piece for $95. I feel a bit relieved that I can get the part. However, paying $100 for one brass piece kind of sucks.

Thank you for replying. I talked to a local carburetor fellow. He said if I can't find the part, he could make something work. I just can't believe I lost it. So annoying. One of those screws broke off I do have three, but it would be nice to bore that broken one out and replace it. Is it really the end of the world if I just use one screw to fasten it? Lol! I feel the same way about losing this part. I'm sure I will find it eventually. Thanks again for your help

Beautiful Truck! Do you use a clear coat to protect the patina?

Very awesome truck! I'm going through the same issue with my engine. Stuck valves and low compression. She had been sitting for 20 plus years. I'm going to try to get her started, but eventually I want to rebuild the engine. Amco quoted me 1600. I'd rather pay a bit more and get someone who builds that type of engine often. Im excited to see how this project goes. Keep up the good work.

Hey Gents, So was just about to rebuild my carburetor and I am missing the brass cross bar that holds the throttle shutter. I've been searching for it, racking my brain, stressing out. Anyone have old carburetor parts laying around? Is there a way to source these parts? What a way to start a build lol. Thanks
-
Great info bud! The parts have been in the berrymans for 24 hours. I'm going to take them out now. I've been trying to find a place to blast the exterior parts. Need to do more searching. Thanks

Okay.... I plan on rebuilding my carburetor. I let it soak in carb clean already It cleaned it pretty good. Stuck it in a ultrasonic tank carb accessories are still rusted. I've watch some you tube videos. I've seen pinesol, viniger, soda blasting. Any affective way to remove the rust inside of the carb compartment. Thanks Again

Thank you Jeff. I realize this project may take longer then expected. I'm not in a huge hurry, but I do want to see her turn over. Eventually I'd like to get the body done.
-
When I first saw this picture. I couldn't see it very well. I though the head was photoshoped in the engine compartment lmao. Did you take off the tire?
-
Hey Jeff, thanks for giving me hope! She has been asleep for a while. I'd love to get on the road and cruise it around.

Thank you for the info. So I just went and checked the compression. I got a , 0, 45, 20, 0, 25, 15. Not sure where to go from here. How do I get better compression? Thanks
-
You rock Merle If I don't clean out my oil pan, what brand and type of oil should I use? Should I try to get it started before I remove the valve covers? Thanks again
-
I did a compression test dry. There was very little compression. Once I put ATF in and let it sit, compression seems to be better, but I have not tested it wet. What is the minimum amount of compression needed? If I end up not getting enough compression, I will look to see if the valves are stuck open. That is best case scenario? If the valves are free and still not getting compression, does that mean the motor needs to be rebuilt and holes rebored? Thanks again Merle
-
Thanks Brent B3B! I did soak it in pb blaster. I'll hit it again. See if I can get it.

Thank you Merle! I really appreciate the help. What happens if a valve is stuck? Are they hard to get unstuck? As far as the oil filter I'll give it some taps and try and get it loose. I've heard the oil bath filters can be a bit of a mess. But that is from one person. The truck definitely has some history. So I imagine the layers of paint and stripping happened a long time ago. As far as motor oil goes, 30w? 10w30? Non detergent? When I change the oil, should I drop the pan and clean the filter inside the pan? Thanks again for the help
