  1. Hi everyone, picked up my starter from the shop today, he repaired the drive, installed a new overrunning clutch, and gave everything a good clean, and replaced what was necessary. Total price $65, installed it, turned the key and magic, it starts great, problem is gone, the ring gear was not a problem after all..............Fred
  2. Thanx Allan, telephoned your contact in TO, left a message, will let you know what happens.............Fred
  3. Yah there are a number of shops in Winnipeg, they don't cater to 40s Mopar unfortunately. I do have a carnut I work with, he has a broker and PO BOX in Pembina ND, right on the border, he said I could ship through him, if I like...............Fred
  4. Allan, any idea how much the Tanksinc, 1941 to 48 Mopar Tank is in plain steel. It's $215.00 US in Minnesota, plus about $75 to ship it, with the GST and exchange, my guess would be about 325 to 350 dollars. If it can be got by a distributor in Tranna (Toronto), it may be less expensive, and shipping from TO to Winnipeg is cheap and quick............Fred
  5. The rolling method, really needs practice to perfect the method. But it is more time consuming than spraying that is for sure. For my car, might end up being a Macco paint job, in Enamel. Tim I did a sand test on my Chryslers primer, sands real nice, not balling up at all, so the theory Tremclad will not sand is bunk, once it cures of course.............Fred
  6. There are 3 types available from Tanksinc, there is a 41 to 48 Furd poly tank, it is $215, there is a steel for 41 to 48 PDCD (Mopar) tank it is $215, or the Stainless is $350. Plus shipping, taxes and exchange since I live in Canada. The Canadian Dollar is about 95 cents US, so not bad...........Fred
  7. Bob, I believe you are correct, in fact the sedan is a 6, I was wrong as the owner did not open the hood, I just assumed it was an 8, it is a 6. These cars are truly engineering works of art, seeing them up close, allows you to sse there greatness...Fred
  8. Cool ride Bob, something I like about the primer look. I know this might be a flattened paint, or custom tinted Epoxy primer. Greg, waiting for some pics of your paint project, how is it coming along, let us know.......Fred
  9. Hi Knuckleharley, can you explain the process, do you fill the tank right up, or do you just fill the bottom. I have a lot of pin holes on the top of the tank, and one tiny pinhole on the bottom. Should these be repaired with JB Weld first. Or should I clean out the tank, then line , then fix holes. What brand of liner should I use, and how much, what about the pick-up screen, do I need to blow air into as the liner dries. How do you clean out the tubing to the pick-up screen. I don't mind doing this job, as my labor is cheaper;) , and I would do a thorough job, as I have a vested interest in the tank. But spending $215.00 plus tax and shipping, may save a lot of headaches:eek: , will decide in near future.......Thanx Fred
  10. Thanx Lou, I just ran the gardewn hose in her a bit just to see what happend, man did a lot of crud come out of there, let me tell you.Winnipeg has at least 10 rad shops, I am sure one of them will boil it out for me......Fred
  11. Phoned the oldest rad shop in Winnipeg, it's been in business 75 years, owner says, no point boiling it out, the acid bath he says he only will do if he is re-lining the tank. What do you get done Lou at the rad shop, I would think you ae having it boiled out with a mild detergent of sorts, or is it a mild acid bath.............Fred
  12. Okay, but what is the best way to clean it up inside, as it is full of rust etc. i was thinking of cleaning the outside with the wire brush attachment on the drill or angle grinder. Should I place drywall screws inside and do the swish around, should I blow air into the screen from the outside fitting. I am willing to try this repair, I personally think it would work. I don't have the coin in the budget right now for a brand new tank....Thanx Fred
  13. Like this idea, even thought of it myself, but wasn't sure it would work. Would I clean the tank, inside and out first. I figure I could use the JB Weld over the enitre area first, then fibreglass, with the cloth next. Would I use tank liner after this or just get it boiled out............Fred
  14. Yes they in fact are 8s, the rag top has 52000 original miles, they are both US cars, one is from Montana....Fred
  15. Allan, cute kids, looks like they are enjoying the moment, or were you telling them to say "cheese" and they noticed you had a missing tooth and smiled. Hope you get the new digs, in this game you reallly need a shop to do these restos. can relate to not getting much done lately. Hope to see some progress pics of your car soon............Fred
  16. Hi all, last night I had the priveledge to go and visit a fellow Chrysler man, and to view his 2 Old Mopars, a 1947 T&C Convertable, and a 48 Chrysler T&C Sedan. He also had a beautiful Model T sedan, which unfortunately I did not get a pic of. At the same time I was able to acquire a few items, to complete my resto of my 47 Chrysler Coupe. I even got a park light lense, a headlight ring, and the gas tank, as well as some other items. Jack was very intersting to speak with, he has a wealth of knowledge on old Mopars, the flathead engines as his first job in 1946 was in a Chrysler dealership in Winnipeg. I asked him what made him want gget into the 46 to 48 Chryslers, he said he first saw a 1948 T&C Convert, while working at the dealership, when he was 16, he knew he would have to have one someday. It was nice to eet this gent and to view his T&Cs..........Fred
  17. The 49 tanks are definately not as wide as the 46 to 48 tank, any idea if any Jeep tanks will fit the 46 to 48. I know the 41 to 48 Furd tanks will fit.........Fred
  18. Here are the 2 tanks in question. As you can see both have a bad side. The one tanks was in decent shape, but has tiny holes on the top side, the other tank has a big hole punched into the bottom. Any ideas, suggestions, or am I need of a reality check here. Would like to create a good tank from these 2 or repair the one with the tiny holes on the top. Can't this tank be lined, if it has pinholes, or is this not advisable...............Thanx Fred
  19. Thanx for the input guys, my tank has a huge hole in the bottom of it, no gummy deposits or old gas in there, highly unlikely it's combustable, but will take all precautions, with it and the other tank. If I can seperate the 2 tanks, clean and prep both good halves, they can easily be joined (welded) afterwards...........Fred. This may cost me a $100.00, compared to $350.00, price of new tank, shipping, duty and exchange..............Fred
  20. Sounds good to me, there is a huge hole in the bottom of mine, so no fumes, no gas in there for 35 to 40 years. The other tank, I will try some method as described. This will be taken apart by Moi, and welded together by an expert. I will clean up the tank and prep it for welding. Any other ideas appreciated.............Fred
  21. HI all, have a ?. Would it be possible to use a good gas tank top from my gas tank, and to attach it to another tank with a good bottom. Both 48 Chrysler tanks. I would seperate the halves first, clean and line tank with appropriate lining, then have it welded/soldered together. Just an idea I have, because someone has a tank with a good bottom, but a weak top, and I have a really good top on my gas tank...............Fred
  22. Hi Norm, glad you enjoyed the day, it's always nice to meet folks like that................Fred
  23. Looks real good Norm, the 2nd pic almost looks like "Old Glory", is mounted on your roof of the car.................Fred
  24. Don, very ingenious fix, as everything on my set-up is the same, don't think it's my issue, but a bad starter drive sure could be.........Thanx again Fred
  25. Don, the engine, trans clutch, and diff are from a 1951 Canadian Dodge Coronet. The engine is a 25 inch, 230 or 218,all Canadian built flat head 6s are the same block casting, made in Windsor Ontario. So a 218 can be a 265 with different pistons, rods and crank. The flywheel, bellhousing and the whole set-up is from the 1951 Dodge, nothing from the drivetrain is from a 48 Chrysler. The car was originally a fluid drive, 251 engine, it is a Royal, so it could have been a 3spd and fluid drive as many were in Canada, or it could have had the M5 clunkomatic with the fluid drive. I do have the fluid drive and M5 here in a parts car, but don't plan on returning to this at anytime soon or ever...........Fred PS the starter was doing this before I took everything apart for this job, it is still doing it now, the starter drive may be at fault, but don't know for sure
