  1. Yes
  2. I am wondering if anyone has a source for valve spring cups. Someone has lost one of mine during a clean out of the machine shop. I.found mine.mixed in a pile of valve parts that were on their way to scrap. Any help would be great.
  3. So I have ran across another issue. Some how a valve spring cup has been misplaced. I'm looking for a place to buy one or if anyone has one on a junk engine, I really could use one. On the rear main seal I reinstalled it correctly and thank you for seeing my stupidity. I guess I'm just use to modern diesel engines.
  4. But like I had said it's not due to pic size that is a different notice
  5. Nearly every picture I try to upload says upload failed,.-200. This is not due to picture size. What could be causing this lately
  6. So last week I was able to get the rotating assembly in the block completely. I still feel that the rear main seal is awfully tight against the beveled cut on the crank.
  7. So I have a question about the rear main. I bought it from Andy and it's the neapream best seal. When intalled it rides on the beveled cut on the crank and pushes the crank all the way forward against the thrust washer. It makes it hard to rotate the engine over. This can't be right, there is to much pressure on the thrust.
  8. Started working on my rockers today. Can't work on the engine at work on while at home, so rust rehab it is.
  9. So an update. I have installed the crank and camshaft. Did some finish painting. And I reground my valves and valve seats.
  10. I used a roll pin punch for removal and a brass drift for installation. For the 3 ring vs 4 ring question, I would say yes the modern 3 ring piston would have a lower friction and a better ring material. I didn't want to go through all of the extra work and time, I just want to drive something that has driven fine for 70yrs.
  11. Isn't the spec .0005-.0015? That is what I got on some plastigage that I found in our machine shop. It looks really old since we don't use it on our diesel engines. Is there a shelf life.
  12. .0005 and .0006 is that better
  13. Got my bearings on Friday, and did the whole plastigauage thing. Everything looks good. Mains at .005 and rods at .006. I assembled the Pistons and rods and will check the ring gap next. We are getting close to assembly.

  15. Just wondering to the O.P. did the noise go away with the adjustment
  16. I did alternate the guides and I took a pic. I marked them intake vs exaust did exaust first then intake. Compared them to the original and to the book. I'm positive I got them right.
