what could cause surging when climbing a hill in 3rd? if i drop it down to second it goes away. and yes i have traveled this hill many times with out incident before in 3rd

Had the same problem with my '53 Plymouth and eventually tracked it down to the rubber hose that runs from the steel gas line on the frame to the fuel pump. It was collapsing when under full load. The rubber gets softer and if yours is old the new gas is not kind to it. I replaced it and everything is good on the big hill going out of town where I had trouble before.
