Finally, some sensible names and definitions...and the word "restored" is nowhere to be found.

Why? Because it has lost it's meaning completely in the old vehicle hobby and should be banned.

I waxed up the dash on my old 46 Fargo and can now sell the truck as restored:eek:

Thats so close to the truth Pat its scary. It`s suprising what some people try and pass off as restored these days.

Hi James,

I'm sorry to hear that your OD tranny from George was not up to snuff...

Trying to find the "silver lining" ( ? ) in your plight, it would seem that you

(and the rest of us, thanks to your sharing your experience) have learned a LOT about the OD tranny, as well as trying to come-up with the "magic" MoPar combination to keep your 'Burb stock, yet meet your needs for a daily driver.

I've always had difficulty letting (trusting?) other folks to do work for me, whether on the car, the house, lawnmower, whatever... (I've also rarely had the money to PAY farm-out repair work...)

I don't mean to say that MY handiwork is better than everyone else's, just that when I'm done, I know exactly what I've got...

I hope you wind-up with a good, solid tranny when you're done with it, and that you will continue to share your knowledge, good luck / hard luck with us.

Webster's defines "restoration" as follows:

To return [something, someone] to original condition or appearance.

In terms of an auto, I would interpret that to mean "returned to same condition as when it left the factory"; ie: no worn parts, perfect function.

"Rebuilt", well now...

Just yesterday, at the Scranton Region AACA show, I was walking the field with a buddy, and pointed-out the "rattle-can rebuild" on a Stovebolt 235 in a '59 Chevy truck...
