Temperature in the low 70's and sunshine. While backing out of my driveway yesterday I came to a sudden and abrupt stop. My wife asked what I hit. Got out and found nothing behind the car. Looked underneath and found the emergency brake cable on the ground under a tire. So I elected to work on the car today while the weather was good. First on my list was installing the rear springs I had rebuilt a month or so ago. This job would take about an hour and a half on a lift. Took me 3 hours on my back. But the deed is done and the springs are on. Took a test drive and the rear of the car no longer feels mushy. I had a new leaf installed in both springs and this raised the rear of the car about 2 inches. I like the look of the car with the new springs. I removed the broken emergency brake cable and will repair it another day. Of interest I found my right rear tire valve cap missing. When I returned home from my trip north last summer I also noticed this cap was missing. I had the oil changed on that trip and attributed the missing cap to the tire checker at the lube house not putting it on tight after checking the tire pressure. So I replaced all four caps with some shinny metal caps I had in my stash. So I know I had all 4 caps on tight. Not sure why this cap was missing today. My speedometer has all but died. When I drove around the block last weekend when the temperature was around 15 degrees my speedometer started making a racket and I thought it was due to the cold temperature. Made the same racket today when it was warm so I disconnected the cable. I have a spare speedometer sitting here on my desk (thanks to Mikemaker) and I need to disassemble and clean it before I install it. Will save that for a cold day.

Don, your car looks good. I need to do something with my rear springs, it rides hard with air shocks that compensate for the saggy springs. I don't know if I should buy new springs or try to find someone to rebuild the priginals. It was 50 here today so I drove the 48 coupe to get some flowers for my daughter that graduated from college today. She's the youngest so I'm all done paying for school.

999.9 miles? how long was that speedo broken? Well I guess I have my answer. My rear leafs are now in two pieces each. No rebuilding here.
