I need to replace the little rubber guide/bumper(s) that go on the inside of the side window glass on a b1b. These little fellers appear to snap into slots in three locations on each window. My B series shop manual doesn't mention them at all in the Body, Doors, Windows and Trim section. Can anyone tell me what they are called, (so I know what to ask for), and where they can be purchased? I have looked at Steele Rubber, and Andy Bernbaum websites, and have not found any listed anywhere thus far.

Also, I have been trying to find items such as these already covered in previous forum postings, but the search feature doesn't seem to work for me for many specific words/topics. Is there a trick to that?

Wellllllll, Gentlemen,

We are speaking of three one-inch-long small rubber bumpers that ride against the inside of the vertical door glass at the belt line on B series trucks, part number 797 913. There are three on the inside of each door glass. I need three of these little devils just now myself. and have called Gary Roberts, Andy Bernbaum ane VPW. According to the three men with whom I spoke, none of them have ever sourced these small rubber bumpers - three to a door - that I need.

Might one of you who have found these rubber parts be willing to share with the rest of us your vendor and part number, so that I may also get a few of these parts?

Conversely, if any of you with parts trucks have any doors with these rubber bumpers intact and are willing to sell them, please let me know. I'm willing to pay whatever's fair. Can't finish putting the door together without them beduase the glass must be out to get 'em in.

And, by the bye, I am also looking really hard for a pair of window inside crank handles of the sort that fit 48 thru 50 cabs. The only thing available from the three usual sources is the later 51-up style that uses the black plasic escushions instead of the earlier chrome type. Sure would be glad to buy a good pair of these from anyone who has them to part with.

Thanks for your time.

GB-I know I bought mine from either Roberts or Bernbaum. If I remember correctly they came in strips about 6" long that you had to cut to legnth. They were called window snubbers or something like that. Have you tried an automotive glass shop? Oh-btw-did you ever make Macungie? I was running around there 3 days working various areas of the show. Sorry we didn't hook up. Mike

Dave,

I got mine from Restoration Specialties. Go to their web site, http://www.restorationspecialties.com/ , download the entire catalog, go to page 80 and at the bottom you'll see P/N 4022 35-39 Chrylser Products Glass Bumper. That's what I used and they seem to work fine.

By the way, if you need 3 per door, then you must not have vent windows. I only needed 2 per door.

"Door glass bumper CC797913.." "mounts between door glass and inside of door on all civilian models"... $4.00 each These are the same item as I have in my doors, from the picture, and do not appear to have to be cut, or altered, according to what is being pictured. Looks to snap right in.

Does anyone know if when using radial tires on original 49 b-1-b wheels if radial inner tubes have to be used, or will tubeless tires seat good to these rims?

Thanks,

As these rims were not intended to be used tubeless (I'm not even sure there were tubless tires in 1950) I thought it best to go with tubes. I've heard others say it makes no difference or they 've not used tubes and had no problem. When using radials we probably drive these old trucks a little faster and harder than originally intended (because the radials are so much better for ride and adhesion), and so the radial will flex and roll on the rim more. I personally like tubes in radials anyway. For the little extra expense, I went with tubes. My 2c...

Radial tires - I have five mounted on stock 16-inch rims for a year now and have yet to add air to one. Did have them sand blasted and powder coated, which helps them to seal better against that sixty-year-old steel rim stuff. I am running 215.85 x 16 Dantons and like them very much. Coulda' had even taller tires if I wanted Asian names on my sidewalls, but there's something that sorta' hurts my teeth about seeing Korean or Chinese writing on tires mounted on old American iron. JMHO

MBF - Yes, I was at Macungie from 8 till 2 on Friday. Enjoyed it immensely, even though the show was obviously off from previous years.

Merle - I'll try restoration specialists. No one else even seems to know what I am talking about.

Thanks all

I got mine from Roberts order # T8 $3.60 for six of them. And you can put them in with the glass in I lost one somehow and managed to get one back in

without to much trouble.

Thanks Merle and Harv, found both part numbers in their respective catalogues. And yes, Merle, there are only to used per side with wing vengs. I just looked into the emopty door shell and saw three slots and didn't think far enough. You are correct. Thanks to both of you.

I'm into primer now with the entire cab and hope to get color on it very soon - still using rollers, if you remember. Other than these small bumpers, I have everything I need to finish this one up - except for all the things I likely have forgotten. Still can't get the lock cylinder out of the RH door. May have to punt and drive it out with a drift, since I have a spare cylinder. Otherwise, I'm making slow progress. :)

GB-do you have any pictures of your progress? Macungie had 532 trucks as of Sat afternoon. They were waiting to get on the showfield Thursday by noontime! It was a great show-still couldn't find any 16" 6 hole Budd rims for my 1 ton's new shoes. Mike
