Philip G. Hurt Posted May 11, 2008 Report Posted May 11, 2008 Hate for your purists, solution for those being sensible and practical....... 1. Sunvisors......originals hard to find, or not to be found.....I made a solution for my pilothouse. Two matching sunvisors from an 87 Nissan D21 hardbody pickup fit my 51 Pilothouse B3B to my satisfaction, resolved the simple problem of originals that may no longer exist. One restriction is the mobility of swinging visor to side, but driving vision is looking forward in lieu of sideways gawking! 2. Electric wiper motors.......installed 2, one right and other left, to operate independently. Source was from the rear door of an 88 Isuzu Trooper. Drilled the cowl to the mounting pattern of the 48-50 stock wipers, where there was adequate room between body and dash. Easy to mount with glove box and speedo removed, easy to fab addition support mounts. Vehicle is pending installation of aftermarket wiring harness, all to be 12V. Aftermarket adjustable arms and blades will fit the criteria for wiping sweep to fit the glass area. The parking will be reversed to the original equipment, more like the 48-50 vacuum, but flat to the cowl. I have access to any number of sources for parts in some of the work I do.......cost is FREE; utility of parts is according to my creative element. Just getting around to installing parts I have stockpiled. Purist pessimism can never counterbalance practicality. For whatever the worth??? Quote
Merle Coggins Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 Phil, Do you have any pictures of the sun visors? That sounds interesting. Merle Quote
Philip G. Hurt Posted May 16, 2008 Author Report Posted May 16, 2008 To Merle.........I can take some pictures if need be. I yet need to install the clip that supports the unhinged end to the header. As I said, this application is restricted to any chance of swinging the visor to the side for shading the door. However, they should be more than adequate for just shading the windshield, mobility being limited to up and down movement. Not the best solution perhaps, but fills the reality and convenience of driving against the sun. Quote
Vintrader Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 Phillip, I like your approach. If a person is going to do a full restoration to show quality it is a another story. But I think most truck owner's just want a good driver. I took the same approach to the 51 B2C I had with the Door Panels, Mirrors, Turn Signals and Tail Lights. Let us know if you come up with any other easy mods and include pictures if you can. Dutch Quote
woodscavenger Posted June 19, 2009 Report Posted June 19, 2009 It may not be by the book but these trucks were work trucks and I can guarantee that many work truck had modifications done to them depending on the need at the time. Maybe call it originuity. Keep the mods coming. Quote
taz06961 Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 I am restoring a 1953 pickup. It is in pretty good shape. I need to buy the rh rear spring screw in shackle. Also the spring is broken that goes around the lower shift column linkage? Will it work without it? Unfortunately I have no grill. I was given a 1998 Dakota grill. I turned it upside down and did a little grinding on it. It really looks pretty good. I would much rather have the original. I am pulling the engine just for a good cleanup. Thank you, Jim Quote
