beyert99 Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 Guys help me out before it's to late. My 230 is going in for an overhaul very soon and I was hoping to get some veteran advise on upgrading what is needed to be a driver, but still maintain an original as can be truck. I have heard oiling is a concern and I am going to talk to the engine guy about this, but I trust you guys can give me more. I don't even know what color to have it painted. That means more questions are coming on this refurb. 48 B-1-C ( still think the 230 was installed original, may be because of 3/4 ton w/4 speed, who knows?? I sent for the build sheet ) Thanks Quote
Bodacious Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 I'd recommend having the crank cross-drilled for better oiling. Quote
dmulhall Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 original engine color was silver....I'm pretty sure Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 I'd recommend having the crank cross-drilled for better oiling. This would be good to do if you plan on spinning the engine over 5 grand for extended periods of time. For normal driving it is not necessary. Quote
beyert99 Posted May 3, 2008 Author Report Posted May 3, 2008 Don, I figured my RPMs would be around 3000 when cruising. I hate that silver look. Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 Don, I figured my RPMs would be around 3000 when cruising. I hate that silver look. What you need is a different differential. I have a 3.55/1 rear gear and an overdrive transmission with a 30% engine speed reduction when in overdrive. At 70 MPH my engine is turning 2200 RPM's. I have a car not a truck and mechanically I am far from stock but most peole can not tell the difference. I painted my Desoto flathead 6 engine blue as I do not like the silver look either. billwillard Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 The 230 runs great stock. Take about .040 off the head if you want a little more but it is not necessary. Your truck so the correct color is what ever you want it to be. Quote
