James_Douglas Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 It has ben a good year and over 2K miles since I put the new engine in the Desoto. Below is the compression test results with all spark plugs out and the throttle closed and the engine hot. DRY________WET 1: 145________146 2: 140________148 3: 137________148 4: 136________146 5: 145________149 6: 146________149 James Quote
Niel Hoback Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 Just for us, try it again hot with the throttle wide open. See if it makes any difference, I think it should. Quote

Niel; Bet it does not make any difference. James; Your engine is very "sound". Did you mill your new head? With these numbers your compression ratio should be over 8/1. Did you get my note on a dual point conversion? Quote
Niel Hoback Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 Thanks Don, that makes good sense the way the book explains it. But then, I guess we should always check the book first. Quote
James_Douglas Posted May 2, 2008 Author Report Posted May 2, 2008 I have done it with the carb open and as long as ALL the plugs are out it makes no difference. The block was milled to clean it up and I CC the head and had it milled until I figured I was close to 8.5 to 1. I did not dare go much more than that for fear of the detonation and the head gasket leaking. Don, I din NOT see anything from you on duel points... James Quote
