bob1949b Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 I had a question about the front motor mounts. I tried ordering them today along with some other parts from Andy B. ( what a grouch) but he said there is just one front mount. My truck has 2 that are mounted inside a bracket on the frame. I will post a pic of the mount. Where can I get these? And also while I have you all here , are both the front brake shoes the same or is there a front shoe and rear shoe? I put them on today and the right side is fine but the left does not turn as freely and drags a bit. do I have them backwards? Quote
Young Ed Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 Those look like the rear mounts to me. And there are 2 of those. You should have a front one under the water pump. Quote
bob1949b Posted April 29, 2008 Author Report Posted April 29, 2008 Maybe I am confused, it has been a while since I took the thing apart. Is the bracket picture I posted where the bell housing mounts? Is there just 3 engine mounts? Quote
Young Ed Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 They look a little different that I remember my 46 ones looking but those are for sure the rear ones. You can see almost right at the top where my rear mounts go. Quote
bob1949b Posted May 3, 2008 Author Report Posted May 3, 2008 I guess I was confused! Dodgepu1946 was right about the mount picture I posted. It was the rear mount. I had forgotten these mounts are where my bell housing mounted to and assumed there were two more mounts up front. When I pulled the motor I did not remove it from the front mount instead I took the two bolts out of the big u shaped bracket that attach to the frame, so I never saw the front rubber motor mount thats probably burried under a ton of grease. I got the new mounts now and am on the right track again thanks to this forum. Here are a few mor pics of my truck. I finished the front end, and soon as my rear brake parts arrive , I can finish the back end and start running my brake lines. Can't wait to have a rolling chassis! Quote
MBF Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 Did you do a "major" adjustment (the 2 concentrics located at the bottom rear of each backing plate)? Did you back off the minor (center of shoe) adjusters? Moving one of these adjustments can effect the other. Mike Quote
bob1949b Posted May 5, 2008 Author Report Posted May 5, 2008 Yes I did make the adjustments you talked about but it still does not turn freely. I even replaced all seals and bearings also and still no change. The drum moves freely to the left and right about 5 - 6 inches but if I try to turn the drum all the way around it gets stuck, not to the point that it wont move at all, but I have to turn it hard to get past that point. Does the drum need to be turned? Any idea's? Quote
