1949P17BC Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 Getting ready for Spring, new Shoes, Drums truned and wheel cylinders on my 49 coupe. Question, on the rear brakes shoes, one side had a rear shoe that had 3/4 of lining , does it go in the front on the back, How many springs one or two. Want to get it right, since not sure who had worked on it last, and what they may have choosen to do. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 Hmmm......the shoes on the '39 or '40 model rears on my car look to be the same size. Could not find a picture of the rear brakes on stuff in my photo album....hopefully should be something in a repair manual or parts book. Have heard it said they are two different lengths on some models. Bottom line: not much help from this post. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 On the MoPar Lockheed double anchor brakes including the 1949 Plymouth`s- shorter shoe definately goes to the rear of the car. Bob Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 Indeed the P15 parts manual says there are 6 long and 2 short brake shoes on the car. It does not say or show where the short ones go, however. In the repair manual it shows the rear shoe as having the shorter lining. Quote
