Dennis_MN Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 Just a retorical question before I go out and buy parts for my conversion project. The left side of the Pilothouse uses left hand thread bolts to hold the wheel on. The suggested rotors are right hand studs. Is there any rotors out with left hand threads? Or did disks happen after the auto industry gave up on self-tightening fasteners for the wheels? I'm thinking that without a left hand thread on the front that I should convert the back so that all studs turn the same direction. Any thought on my issue? Dennis Quote
Merle Coggins Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to put a right side drum on your left rear so that all wheels would use RH thread. It would be less confussing in the future. Does your truck use wheel bolts? Mine has studs and nuts. Maybe you could put studs in the disc hub and use LH thread on the left side. Then leave the rear alone. Merle Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 It's really not a problem to have left and right hand threads on the front and back of the same side. I have disc on my coupe with original hubs on the rears. Since I know the fronts are disc I don't give it a thought when removing the wheel. I know the front is both right hand threads. Quote
Guest Dave Claussen Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 The ends of the studs should be stamped with an R and an L to designate which is which. As long as you pay attention to that you really have no reason not to use the intended left and right hand stud/nut system. I can testify from personal experience that trying to go the wrong way is not recommended. Dave Quote
Jim Yergin Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 AAJ Brakes offers the L/H studs in its kits. Jim Yergin Quote

Dave I was hopping to avoid problems associated with older age such as Knees don't work too good for bending over, and when you get there, the dang bifocals won't focus on the ends of studs. It's too easy just grabbing the tire cross and using the lefty loosey rule. Not so much for me but for the next owner. Dennis Quote
Guest Dave Claussen Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 I'm with you on the knees and bifocal problems. Gettin' older is not fun sometimes, but it beats the alternative...LOL Quote
