A Question For The Aussie Moparists

I was recently talking to one of our forum members in OZ.He might even be reading this.We were talking about twin carb manifolds.It was suggested that a twin carb manifold from a Holden 186 red motor would fit with some mods too a Dodge flathead 6.Well ive now got the manifold and one carby(looking for another matching one).A bloke i know just happened to have one in his shed as scrap,so i was told,anyway can someone give me any advice as to what mods are need to make this mate up to the head.I havnt pulled down the old original manifold yet as to see if the ports are the same(they seem to line up if you hold it near the head!)so any help would be great!

I have been told two different stories about Holden manifolds fitting flat 6`s.

One is the 186 manifold, the other is that the early grey motor one fits.

I have never tried or seen them fitted. I am not sure whether these guys have been talking about the short or long block motors. Most people here don`t know there is a difference.

In oz hot-up parts for the flatty (long or short) are very thin on the ground.

I`m note sure what the space is like in the cars but the trucks have modified manifolds so that the clutch pedal clears them. A lot of what I have seen of the USA stuff will not fit on the trucks out here, so I am going to make my own.

Tony, if you have a spare stock manifold you can line the two of them up at the mounting surfaces to see if the spacing is right. If that part is ok, the only other problem area might be the heat riser, and you could always split a stock exhaust manifold and cut out the center section to resolve that problem.

My understanding is that the Holden grey 6 intake fits the 23" engine, the Holden Red intake fits the 25" engine.......now what I mean by fits is that the intake ports line up....BUT as the Holden intake is on the US drivers side the carby flange when the intake is mounted on the US passenger side ends up pointing the carbs at a severe angle, what people have done is either use angled spacers or have the carby mounting flanges machined then redrilled..........trust this helps, andyd

Welcome to the forum. The junior member tag has nothing to do with how long you have had your Dodge. It has to do with how many postings you have made to this forum. Please keep posting as your years of experiance and ownership are appriciated.

I have also been told that the red motor manifold fits the 25" block. In a place like Australia or NZ, there's no need for the heat riser.

After further investigation,i will probably have to run Headers/Extractors as it looks like the original intake and exhaust manifolds are joined together.Is that where the heat riser is located,if it is mines broken anyway! there is just a rod sticking out with no spring!
