Lou Earle Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 Working on the ac/alternator adapter plate and as Don noted I will be having clearance problems with the battery tray. So the question is - is the battery tray welded in? or just bolted- I see old bolts on one but cannot tell about the possibility of it being welded- is it? Lou Quote
Don Coatney Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 Lou; I believe they are bolt in. I see them come up on the bay occasionally and the sellers list them as bolt in. Quote
teardrop puller Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 On my 49 Plymouth the tray is bolted in using the hold down bolt holding bolts. The bolts go through a flattened botom of the bolt and then through the side of the inner fender. kai Quote
martybose Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 On my 47 it was welded in; it took quite a while to remove it without damaging the inner fenderwell. Maybe the different assembly plants did things differently? Marty Quote
Normspeed Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 Lou, if you're not intent on remaining stock, you can make a pretty decent tray by cutting down a marine battery box on a table saw. Might give you some wiggle room. Here's one in the P24. Original tray looked bolt in. Quote
David Maxwell Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 ...a rubber insulator pad under the tray. A nozel protrudes through the inner fender wall and a rubber drain tube attaches to that. It was supposed to help prevent the tray from rusting out if water got in it. In most cases, it didn't work. Quote
