thedahmer Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 I was watching the movies CARS=== the Mater the tow truck has a Bulls EYE headlight-- only one though-- Quote
greg g Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 Which gene pool is he from Chebbie or International Harvester???? I'm thinking 55/6 Chebbie, some folks think his mamma was a Dodge but I don't think so. Quote
48mirage Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 This truck/charachter is based on a guy in Riverton Kansas, about 20 minutes from here (wife went to school there). I'll see if I can find out. Quote
T.Tom Meshingear Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 If this story is true http://rwarn17588.wordpress.com/2006/10/05/four-wheeled-inspiration-for-mater-is-found/ then the official inspiration is IH. But his face looks more like a Dodge or this International T.Tom Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 This item was in the Carthage, MO paper recently. It does say a movie person spotted an old International wrecker at an abandoned service station in Galena, Kansas. Now, to me, he looks like a little bit newer International. I found a picture of one that was just about his twin, with the opposite headlight out.....I posted it a while back. But now I don't recall where I found it. Ah--ha, found that pic. 1956 IH. Quote
greg g Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 Fender lines, headlight surrounds, door creases, still scream Chebbie at me, the vent windows and windshield look IH in the animation cell. I think Mater maybe a Bowtie with an IH roof transplant. Quote
Guest Roadrunner Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 I read in a paper that the insperation for Mater was a 1958 IHC Towtruck in poor repair. The movie portrayed him as a mid 50s chev. Quote
De Soto Frank Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 Blakeslee ?? ! Hiya, heighbor ! I think I concur with Greg's take on 'Mater... below the belt-line he sure looks like a Task-Force Chevy, but upper cab looks either Dodg-y or IHC-ish... When I saw the movie the first two times, I was convinced that he was a '55-'57 Dodge, but the last time this topic came up, Bob T posted that newspaper article and a picture of the R-series IHC... Whatever his origins, he's about the funniest darn thing in a long time ! Quote
