Hi all, I could not resist, after working on the 47 for a while, decided to start it up and go for a ride.

It is -8 right now, the car ran and drove very well, took a couple of miles and some time for the engine to warm up. It had been in the garage at 30 degrees inside, so I did not start the car in -8 temperature.;)

The gravel road was dry, went for about a 3 mile ride, the engine ran great, car road very well:p .......................Fred

How did you make out with the oil leak ?

Sounds like you had a nice ride Fred. Did you have your heater on to warm things up a little, or is it hooked up yet?

I plan on driving mine more this year. My heater and defroster works great, so it'll be nice and toasty in there. Can't drive it on the street though until February 1. My collector plates are no good for on the road during the month of January. Really doesn't matter right now anyway, we got about a foot of snow last night.

Hi Norm, the heater is hooked up and works great, but at todays temp it took a while to get warmed up, having no carpet or interior besides the seats, makes it a little cold too.

One thing I noticed, when my gauge read 160, the heater didn't feel all that warm, it isn't till it's at 175 or 180 that it feels warm, but the temp gauge must be out at least 10 to 15 degrees. When it reads 175 to 180 on this cheap aftermarket gauge, the temp with a thermometer in the top of the rad reads 165, and this thermometer is pretty accurate. We dont' have all that much snow here this winter, we had a lot more last year. The gravel was dry, so I went for a rip, I wouldn't go too far in this weather, it was -7 when I went for the short cruise, would not want to break down with the 47 in this weather, that would not be fun.............Fred

I think you starting the car and doing the short runs is great. It keeps everything working and lubricated. I know what you mean when it comes to being cold inside the car, the carpet and headliner and all play an importsnt part in holding the heat in. My little bus. coupe gets nice and warm because of the tweed, they wanted me to put a rubber mat as carpet like the original, I said No,no,no:p

At minus 8 degrees, I can sure believe the heater had to work hard! At the holidays I was running in temps as low as 20 above (F), and I can literally see through the air gaps where my door gaskets used to be, and the heater still brought the interior up to 70 or more, given enough time.

I was thinking of trying this tonight, but it's too darn cold, its -12 outside now...........Fred

Good move Fred. When it gets around 0 or below, it's time to hibernate.:D This kind of weather I will only go out if I absolutely have to. It's supposed to bounce back to around 35 to 40 degrees this weekend though. So well will be getting a heat wave.
