D24 knobs are available in Brown and Black ...Plymouth was known for Ivory..not sure about Chrysler or DeSoto Only the rear ash receivers had adifferent color..they were straw yellow per the book.

For example Knob, Map light Sw. brown 1149823

Knob, Map light Sw. black 1154205

I did find one note in reference to the knobs..Black was for Four Door Sedan Special, Town Sedan Special and Conv. Coupe these three are under D24-C

Very interesting and new news to learn. Was'nt Chrysler white knobs? I have a large Dodge dealers sales booklet that shows all the car models including the Town Sedan. Nothing there about a Four Door Sedan Special though. Is that another type Town Sedan since the suicide door type sedan only came as custom and deluxe Tim?

BTW, Happy New Year all!

Ed..confusing at times..some pages tend to call it a custom other pages call it a special... parts are listed on the body as D24 goes both high and low end models..D24-S is the Deluxe and the D24-C is the custom. Why they later refer to it as a special I have not found any documentation yet. am looking though

I've seen you refer to these as D24-S and D24-C before and was curious where you came up with that and now "special", which book/manual are you getting this from Tim? When you had mentioned D24-C in the past I thought it might be something your Town Sedan had on it's own with it's paper work or you were just using the C as a reference to the top end model "Custom". Now seeing that "S" has been included it really has me wondering where your getting this from. I may have over read it, missed it or even forgotten it but I can not recall seeing these used for reference in both my parts manuals, service manual, owners manual, dealers booklet, Chilton and Motors manual or on the original title.

After going over the dealers booklet to make sure before I asked anything more, it shows the Town Sedan only came in the Custom package. It lists Dodge De Luxe models as 4-Door Sedan, Business Coupe and 2-door Sedan then it lists Dodge Custom models as 6-Passenger Coupe, 4-Door Sedan, Town Sedan, Convertable Coupe and 7- Passenger Sedan.

I did see the word "special" used and it may just explain why you see it. The term is referring to added equipment like the clock or radio, etc. Qoute " New electric clock (special equipment) has setting button on face which operates without opening box door. New plastic control buttons are centrally grouped for easy convenience. Directional turn indicator (special equipment) is at left of steering column, opposite gear shift." unquote.

Being that the Custom is the higher end model and De Luxe the base model for the D24 I do not understand why a referal of D24-S would be used or what the "S" means. It does not mean special equipment as that would refer to the Custom model. Could it mean these are referring to the Canadian models D24C or D25 on the literature your reading this from? Reason I ask that is because of Plymouth using Special De Luxe as it's high end model and De Luxe as it's base model and with one of the Canadian models using the Plymouth body for Dodge I thought that might have some bearing to what your reading from.

I'm not trying to be politically correct but I do find this interesting and it really is good to know. Your posts in the past that referred D24-C or S had me confused but for those that are new who dont even know there was a Custom and De Luxe I'm sure it has them lost. Ed

Black knobs generally came with the town sedans that were used as Taxi cabs- same for the steering column and the wheel--now, there are also some Desoto LWB that were used as taxis, that also had the black knobs instead of the clear like its brother the Chrysler, the Crown Imperial had both clear and Black knobs, clear on the lower dash, black for the window switches and the dual wiper switches and if memory serves me correct had ivory for the dividing window if it had one--That is my 2 cents anyway--

By the Way Tim Adams, are you going to Moultrie at the end of the month??
