Noonan Posted September 3 Report Posted September 3 Thought this would be useful information for doing the rear axle seals. The stock seal retainer can be opened like a can on the outer side of the retainer. If you try this on the inboard side of the seal retainer you will find dimples that should be left alone to keep the retainer concentric as possible. Measure the I.d. and o.d. needed for the seal and save quite a bit of money 1 Quote
Ivan_B Posted September 4 Report Posted September 4 Am I seeing this correctly - did you cut the seal cap to accommodate a modern seal? 🤔 Quote
Noonan Posted September 4 Author Report Posted September 4 (edited) Yes I marked it and cut the top off. somewhat carefully. Then the old seal came out, followed by big fat washers that were resting against the dimples on the inboard side of the seal retainer. I didn't put the big washers back in to the seal retainer. I'm confident it should work fairly well having only grease in the outboard bearing cavity. Edited September 4 by Noonan Quote
Ivan_B Posted September 4 Report Posted September 4 Looks good, do you have more pics, for reference, and the part number for the new seal? Quote
Noonan Posted September 4 Author Report Posted September 4 (edited) My nephew did the measuring and ordering a while back I'll have to take a look next time the drums are off. Vernier calipers and a seal list (pick a manufacture) by size can get you close enough to find a seal. Edited September 4 by Noonan Quote
Ivan_B Posted Monday at 01:21 AM Report Posted Monday at 01:21 AM According to the OP, the new seal he used is CR 20525 1 Quote

Do you have some pics and more details of what you did and how you did it? Quote
Noonan Posted Monday at 02:31 AM Author Report Posted Monday at 02:31 AM I wouldnt hesitate to take measurements and compare to the seal specs regardless Quote
