Dale Uhrich Posted November 21, 2006 Report Posted November 21, 2006 Does anyone know which model fulton visors fit a 1950 truck? There are quite a few different models offered for sale Quote
grey beard Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 The Fulton that came on my truck haa a problem with the fit. The hood rear edges hit the visor when opened. Now I know this sounds like something easily remedied, but this is not so. The visor is located as far back as possible on the A piller - any further back and the door frame would hit the outboard bisor brackets. Raising the visor just worsens the problem, and for my money it is too low as it sits now. I have studied this and beleive there is no remedy other than possibly gluing split vacuum hose to the rear of the hood edges where the two contact. In point of fact, I may take the thing off and get rid of it. Anybody know how to make them fit a Pilothouse? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 I think the pickups used a little smaller visor that attached to the drip channels . Something like this, without the louvers. Quote
grey beard Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 I am trying to post a photo that will illustrat3 my prohblem. You may note that the visor has white marks on the leading edges on both sides where the hood rear edges conflift when the hood is raised. This of course is the aluminum showing through the paint. Corresponding paint scars are visible on the rear hood edges. Wish there was a happy fix for this, but there simply appears to be insufficient room for the thing on the truck. Suggestions are welcome. Quote
Mario Loya B1B Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 Dave, I am not particularly happy with the look of mine. I am not sure what it is. It seems too high. But as the photos indicate, it needs to be in order to clear the hood. Does anyone know where I can get the center chrome piece that covers the center joint of the visor. I bought the truck with this piece missing and was hoping to find a replacement. Quote
captden29 Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 where are these fulton visors sold? I WOULD LIKE ONE FOR MY 54 WINDSOR CONVERTIBLE. dennis Quote
Mario Loya B1B Posted November 24, 2006 Report Posted November 24, 2006 Norm, I was afraid of that. I think I'll try to fabricate something from some chrome trim or something similar. My last resort will be buying the visor. Thanks. Quote
Ed Griffin Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 Mario, you have a very good looking truck. One thing I have to say though. I like these visors and have them on my vehicle. The only thing is that if the visor sits like Dave's then it looks like it's supposed to. If it doesnt work the way Dave's is you cant go up too far without it looking out of place. If the hoods hitting it and you've moved it as far back as possible without it looking odd and it still bumps against each other then a differant style/brand is needed. Those that mount on the drip rail seem to have more of a curve and dont stick out as far. That would probably be your best bet to use instead of it being hiked up in the rear as yours sits. To me, your visor looks like it is tilted too much because it wont go back any further which is past how far back you actually want it to sit to properly keep the best stance. It's just as if you hiked the rear of the truck too high. It doesnt look right. Beleave me I'm not cutting your truck down, just being honest how the visor looks to me. If I owned a universal visor company I would advertise anything that it fit too. That doesnt mean it will function properly with the vehicle as Dave has shown. Quote
Mario Loya B1B Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 Ed, I don't disagree with anything you said. I think i will try to tinker with the visor to improve its stance, but truth be told, I have never been too sure about keeping it on the truck. I am 6'3" and love pilot house trucks for their roomy cabs, but scrunching down at traffic lights to wait fo a light change because of the visor makes me think I may be better off without it. Quote
PatS.... Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 This one posted in the For Sale section seems to have a much shorter visor that isn't up too high. Maybe a different model visor was made? Quote
Ed Griffin Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 The type Pat shows is what I was talking about. I had one to go on a truck and ended up leaving it off. Sent it with the truck to the new owner. The only problem with those are like Norm mentioned. They are made specific for certain vehicles and you have to find one that will fit. I like those more on a truck than the Fultons myself because of how they wrap around and dont have all the hardware on the sides. I'm 5' 5" and can see how someone much taller would have a problem with a visor. The one on my car still makes me look under to see the light change. I have a prisim(sp?) I bought for that very reason but that was a couple years ago and it got put away so now I cant locate it. There supposed to help see the light change without having to break your neck. Luckily they make pillows to see over the steering wheel in my case Quote
Ken_Hart Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 I would love to find one like Pat showed. it looks better proportionally then the Fulton (not as high up on the truck) Quote
Brendan D25 Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 There were other makers of visors other thanFulton. The one on my D25 was made in Canada by Universal, as can been seen in my profile. There was also a company in the U.S. which made one similar to mine, I forget the name, I've seen them on ebay from time to time. Quote
