OUTFXD Posted May 12, 2023 Report Share Posted May 12, 2023 So, Broke the shift linkage grommet (wich is only a couple months old). Looked into what it would take to turn the steering column to adjust the shift levers. and it really wasnt that complicated. However, The bit that secures the steering column to the bottom of the dash leaves little room to move the steering column. Any clues on the exact position the steering column is supposed to be in? I have adjusted and adjusted and Pulled out the linkage and straightened it out. I noted that the manual shows the shift lever horizontal,. where as mine is between 1 and 2 oclock. someone suggested that rotating the column would change where the shift lever sets. in theory this would allow for the additional throw I need to get into second gear. Will it go into reverse? Have you tried disconnecting the linkage, and shifting the transmission by hand? Once it is in second, look at what it will take to get the shifter there. Maybe the shift lever is loose on the transmission. There is only so much throw between 2nd and third. Where is the shifter when you put it in third?
