Hi all. I doubt the stick that is sitting under my hood was the stock hood support ? but it's the way the car came to me. Is there supposed to be a steel rod you put in place to support the hood, or does the spring configuration at the hinges keep it up? (Mine does not)

I have accouple 1950 Plymouth's and they only have one hood brace at the rear of the hood, that extra brace might be adding weight to the hood. The hood springs are not that strong and you need to keep them oiled.
