uncleaud Posted October 6, 2022 Report Posted October 6, 2022 I have the straight 8 air cleaner and would like to clean and repaint. Is it possible to disassemble and remove the inner mesh assembly so as to sandblast just the sheet metal? I haven't spent a lot of time with it as have been working on more pressing matters but there didn't seem to be an obvious solution. Also, can they be converted to a dry element filter as I've never been a fan of the oil bath system. I know they work good, just seem to be more of a mess. Thanks Quote
Eneto-55 Posted October 6, 2022 Report Posted October 6, 2022 (edited) There are discussions (threads) about the conversion process here on the forum. I messed mine up by soaking it in a caustic de-greaser solution at the plating shop where I was working at the time. The "horse hair" in the upper filter disintegrated. I personally prefer the oil bath type of filter, so I worked the crimp around the top canister open, so that I could remove the mess that remained from the original filter material, and replace it with something else. But the approach most use who want to permanently convert to paper filters is to cut around the filter canister, leaving a part of the lower section as a lip that hides the paper filter from view.
