19coronet50 Posted October 5, 2022 Report Posted October 5, 2022 (edited) I have the 230 with gyromatic transmission. The previous owner swapped the carb for one out of a 53 gmc. And it was converted to 12 volt negative. My question is how do I install a kick down switch. The only way I go down to “low” is by coming to a complete stop. greg g Posted October 7, 2022 Report Posted October 7, 2022 Take a look at the Imperial Club web site repair section. They have a lot of material on care and feeding of the various semi automatic transmissions. There might be a wiring diagram there. I believe the gyromatic is the m6 variant. The trans should up and down shift without the kickdown circuit. The kickdown provided for a wideopen throttle deal like passing gear. Or hill climbing. Shifts up and down at normal driving around should still take place. Sometimes it's as simple as slowing fown idle speed to let the governor do its thing controling the solinois. Idle rpm wants to be 450 to 500. But if it's been changed to 12v negative, you need to use a 12v solinoid. Quote
