Trunk Handle Key Hole Cover - Solution found!

Need advice how to add - I don´t know it´s name:

Trunk Handle Key Hole Cover?

 

1.) Aluminium  or stainless steel ?

2.) how can I extract the closure out of the handle?

3.) what is the small hole for?

4.) how did they manage to keep the cover centered, having his hub hole excentric??

5.) I would prefer to rivet the cover

6.) if I can´t extract the closure, is there somthing like one of these expansion anchors, but watchmaker´s size?

 

Thanks for any hints!

# 3, the small hole is so you can remove the key cylinder. Insert the key and turn to the open position and at the same time insert a thick paperclip into the small hole (#3) and the key cylinder can be pulled out. Moparfun gives good advice.   The key must be in the lock and turned part way before this is possible.  If you have the original cover, you will find it was riveted in place,

 

I am doubtful that it could be successfully replaced.

Good tips from You worked!

 

1.) it is not necessary to take the handle- and- base off the trunk lid.

 

2.) The closure comes out with key in  2 o´clock position and pushing a wire through the hole to release the fixing pin.

Now, the closure cover an be seen from the back side: it is punched in at a few places.

3.) To take it off, You may carefully try to pry these tabs open.

I didn´t find a suitable tool to do so because my fine skrew drivers bended themselves instead of the tabs.

So, I took a small round cutter and grinded these tabs partially off.

Than, the cover was easy to remove without bending the cover itself.

3.) Luckily, behind the rivethole for the lost lid, the closure offers a big cavity.

I preferred to skrew the new lid instead of riveting it.

So, I ground 2 countered nuts until they fitted in the cavity.

4.) having sheet stainless steel and Aluminium on hand, I filed my own new lid. I cose the Aluminium, it´s color fitting better than the steel´s.

My size resulted a bit too big, as it reaches a little too much into the movement space of the key.

To turn the key, the lid must stay exactly opposite:

Well, my lid hang down crookedly.

To hold it into a symmetrical rest position, I added a silicone washer on the skrew.

 

5.) If You took the whole unit off the car:

When mounting on the car, the base portion of the handle must be in the right position.

Locking will not work with the wrong side up! Try!
