Strictlyballroom Posted May 24, 2022 Report Posted May 24, 2022 When reversing in my 42 Windsor on a downwards slope, the shifter on my semi automatic transmission locks up and I cannot get the column shifter into neutral or any other gear. As soon as the car is again level it moves freely- any ideas????? Quote
busycoupe Posted May 24, 2022 Report Posted May 24, 2022 Check the motor mounts. The engine may be shifting position on the slope causing the shifter linkage to bind. 1 Quote
1949 Wraith Posted May 26, 2022 Report Posted May 26, 2022 I have a '41 Windsor with the Vacamatic that I have been driving as a standard for years. Putting a load on the trans from the diff locks up my shifter when reversing on slope or pulling forward to a 2X4 I use as a positioner in my garage. I have learned to shift into neutral while the car is still moving slightly in these situations before you stop. You will find if you are locked up you will have to take the load off before you can shift by continuing forward or reverse slightly and shift will the load is released. Quote
