Arthur1947 Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 My clutch problems are solved thanks to you guys. I dropped my tranny, removed the clutch and flipped my clutch plate I had improperly installed. There was no wear from recent start ups. Fortunately the only time I engaged the clutch was to start the car. Also, do to proper installation, my clutch fork did'nt need to be pushed so far forward so I was able to shorten the linkage but kept the spacers for the pivot in. It was a big step backwards to make one small step forward but now I know I will never make that mistake....EVER. Best. ARTHUR Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 that sounds great, We can't be afraid to go back on things we have done to make things right. I see people around here think they are so right that they will not question themselves. good job now to the next goal! Quote
Lee Exline Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 Thanks for pointing out this possibility! I need to change the clutch on my 56 Plymouth UTE and I will have to make sure I do not put it in backwards. Lee Quote
40phil41 Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 Good job Arthur. When I changed the clutch in my '40 I scratched my head for hours trying to figure out which way the clutch plate went. Luckily I got it right. Phil Quote
Arthur1947 Posted November 19, 2006 Author Report Posted November 19, 2006 Funny thing is I had it right and asked on this forum before I put the disk in. I must have been too occupied with bolting on the clutch assembly to even notice I had the disk on wrong. When I peeked through the bell housing I nearly had a heart attack. Best. A. Quote
bob westphal Posted November 20, 2006 Report Posted November 20, 2006 On almost all clutch discs I have installed, the disc has a raised part which contains some springs in a circle concentric with the splined hub. This raised part fits very nicely into the large hole on pressure plate. If you try placing the disc on the plate both ways, it will be evident which way is correct. This raised part will stick out towards the flywheel if in the wrong direction or hide itself in the plate in the correct direction. Bob Quote
