Robin (UK) Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 Guys, My son (7-year old Henry) was determined to get his picture in his favorite comic book - The Beano. He came up with the idea of taking his picture with the Plymouth and sending it to the club page... and it worked!!! Here's a clipping from today's issue. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 It would appear that Henry is pretty doggone bright.....takes after his dad. Neat thing for him. Way to go, Henry!! Quote
Chester Brzostowski Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 Henry not only got in the book but made center page. I guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Congratulations, Chet… Quote
JerseyHarold Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 Hey Robin, Please pardon my question but...why do you spell 'favorite' without the 'u'? Are you originally from the USA? Harold Quote

Norm's Coupe Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 Same way we spell colour with a "u" Favourite Pat, is that French? Guess you can tell I don't speak French, even though I spent a year in Paris back in the 60's. Funny story I had happen to me while in Paris that year. Was in the army then stationed at SHAPE. One day while driving to the NCO club for dinner with my wife and daughter, I accidentally ran a red light while trying to make it through the yellow. I got about a quarter block from the intersection and looked in my mirror. Here's this French cop chasing me ON FOOT blowing his whistle the whole time. :D So......I pulled over to the side of the road, wife and I both trying to hold our composure and keeping a straight face. (daughter was only 6 months old so she didn't know what was going on, otherwise she would probably have been laughing too). Anyway, when the cop finally made it to my car window he started rattling off something in French and pointing to his eyes and back to the traffic light. (think he was asking if I was blind or not). I sat there with the straightest face I could given the circumstances and kept telling him; "No par le vue France' (spelling). After about ten minutes of that going back and fourth the cop finally threw his hands up in the air, shook his head and started motioning me to go on. :D I'll never forget that day because of that cop chasing me on foot blowing that whistle like that. Did he actually think he could catch me if I didn't pull over? Another day the military bus that had a route from SHAPE headquarters compound to the Arch De Triumph, then back to SHAPE had a similar incident, only with not so good an outcome for the French Cop trying to stop him on foot with a whistle. The bus driver was about to make the circle around the Arch. All of a sudden the French cop jumped in front of the bus going about 30 MPH and put his hand up to stop the bus. Well..........the cop was too close to the bus when he did that, so you can imagine what happened to the cop. Good thing was he just ended up with a few bruises and broken bones. Those French foot cops had dedication, you'll have to agree on that. So....sometimes it pays to only speak one language. Quote
Robin (UK) Posted October 20, 2007 Author Report Posted October 20, 2007 Hey Robin,Please pardon my question but...why do you spell 'favorite' without the 'u'? Are you originally from the USA? Harold Harold, When I'm on the Forum I do my best to fit in with you guys. I try to use Americanised English spelling and American terminology for parts, etc. Not always easy, but I think it's polite. Also, if I start talking about things like 'bonnet' (hood), 'quarterlight' (vent window), overriders (bumper guards), etc, you'd think I was crazy. Then again, you'd probably be right!!! Quote
JerseyHarold Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 Robin, I forgot to mention that's great photo of your son sitting on the nearside wing of your Plymouth! Harold Quote

Some Canadian language and spelling quirks are explained here if anyone is interested: http://www.cornerstoneword.com/misc/cdneng/cdneng.htm Quote
