JBNeal Posted February 8, 2021 Report Posted February 8, 2021 blue block date is May 14, 1952 rusty block date looks like March 28 but the year appears obscured or has eroded away...might need to wire brush another 3" towards the rear of the block to see any 2-digit year. Quote
Mertz Posted February 8, 2021 Author Report Posted February 8, 2021 How does A2 translate to May? I know there are codes to these numbers. Moving to the back of the rusty block is another raised section so I’m not sure there are other numbers but I will do some more cleaning. I’m pretty sure it’s the original engine and I know it’s a 1940 but I could be surprised. Quote
JBNeal Posted February 8, 2021 Report Posted February 8, 2021 the alphanumeric above the date has something to do with the casting that I'm unsure of its meaning; there is a similar alphanumeric that appears on the head casting...both have part numbers cast into them as well. I'm not too savvy on pre-War engines, but post-War engines ya have to reference engine casting dates to determine which rear main seal to use, as well as which head gasket, as there was a significant change for '51 and up. Mertz Posted February 8, 2021 Author Report Posted February 8, 2021 I found a 3 on the block I can barely see in the previous picture Looks like there might be a 7 behind the 82 Quote
