ChrisMinelli Posted November 30, 2020 Report Posted November 30, 2020 I’m planning out the next project for when I have spare time. I have a 52 Plymouth. I need to access the turn signal switch (in the steering column) but I don’t see any screws or anything to get it’s housing apart. How do you get in there? Quote
JerseyHarold Posted November 30, 2020 Report Posted November 30, 2020 Assuming it was factory installed, you have to remove the steering wheel to get to the turn signal switch. 2 Quote
ChrisMinelli Posted November 30, 2020 Author Report Posted November 30, 2020 Thanks... is that a terribly complicated job? Never done it. I have a service manual though. Quote
JerseyHarold Posted November 30, 2020 Report Posted November 30, 2020 Not too complicated to get at. You have to remove the horn ring (watch for 3 little cylindrical spacers...you don't want to lose them) and then remove the attaching nut and use a steering wheel puller to get the wheel off. The steering shaft is one long steel rod that goes into the steering box. Look on the underside of the steering wheel for a couple of recessed screws ( that might only be on lower-line 'horn button' cars). Quote
dpollo Posted December 1, 2020 Report Posted December 1, 2020 Be sure to protect the threads at the top of the steering tube. If you bell-mouth the tube with the puller, the game is over. Reinstall the nut but not tight and make a simple center for the puller which will slip into the tube. A bolt will work it you round the edges and for a dimple to engage the pointed end of the puller. 1 Quote
