Raycuda Posted August 8, 2020 Report Posted August 8, 2020 I am trying to replace the highbeam switch on my 39 Plymouth P18 . I can see it but can't get at it. One screw comes out from the inside but the other must be stripped, it just turns. Any help on how I get at it? Is there a panel I need to remove? Thanks Quote
Jerry Roberts Posted August 9, 2020 Report Posted August 9, 2020 Are there nuts for the switch on the bottom of the car ? Sometimes you can apply a little pressure with a screwdriver as a wedge to get things to unscrew . Quote
Raycuda Posted August 9, 2020 Author Report Posted August 9, 2020 No, is that how you get at it? What does that involve? Quote
desoto1939 Posted August 9, 2020 Report Posted August 9, 2020 I have the sister car a 39Desoto. Fisrt is that you need to remove the gas pedal and also the front mat and or rug. Then you take out the two section of the floor board metal. Inthe upper left corner you will see the dimmer switch you can then get access to it and unscrew the screws. If the one is stripped then put pressure on the body of the dimmet switch and use a vice grip to try to remove the screw. You can get universal dimmer switched jus put the three wires back into the proper bullet connectors. Word of advise use car when removing the wires get some dielectric jelly to coat the area were the bullets go into the switch. Now test the switch to make sure that the high and low beams work properly and also you high beam indicator prior to putting the floor boards back into the car. You do not want to have to take it all apart if you got the wires connected incorrectly. Rich HArtung Desoto1939@aol.comr Quote
Raycuda Posted August 9, 2020 Author Report Posted August 9, 2020 Thanks Rich, Lloyd and Jerry, I will work on that. I have a new rubber mat that I need to put in so I'll be working on that area. Quote
