homer41 Posted February 14, 2019 Report Posted February 14, 2019 I have a bend in the (long) passenger side tie rod, a friend said some old cars had a bend in them. I think it is just bent and not supposed to be that way, who is correct? 1941 plymouth P-12. Dave Quote
Cold Blue Posted February 14, 2019 Report Posted February 14, 2019 The tie rods in my '48 P15 are dead straight. I think they should all be straight, but I don't have first hand knowledge about a '41 P12. Seems to me that a bent rod would make setting the toe-in difficult. ..And I can think of no reason for a bend in a tie rod to be designed that way from the factory. Just my two cents worth. Quote
Andydodge Posted February 14, 2019 Report Posted February 14, 2019 Both the 1940 Dodge and the 1941 Plymouth P11 I had both used the same tie rod arrangement, yeh they are RHD cars BUT the steering was exactly mirror reverse of that used on LHD cars and the short tie rod goes to the drivers side, the long one to the passenger side and they are BOTH straight without any bend in them......I'd get a another one or at least a new piece of cold drawn seamless tubing and make a new one............andyd Quote
Jerry Roberts Posted February 14, 2019 Report Posted February 14, 2019 If it needs to be straight , put it in a vise and straighten it out . If it bends again , replace it . Quote
